right now there are 6 undefeated teams in the league. 75% of the league is below .500
my question is, wouldnt this make it easier for teams with a current bad record to make the playoffs? specifically directed at 1-3 teams *cough* 0-4 lions aswell *cough*

| Yes, The winner of the NFC east could be sitting at a record of 8-8, 7-9, or 9-7 |

@Tiago the giants could very well have 7 wins by week 9... what makes you say the winner will have an 8-8 record? late season collapse?? |

| it's called being top heavy. one team in the division is beating everybody meaning there is less wins to be had below. |

| so could it lead to a wild card team with an 8-8 record? because honestly i think the lions have a legit shot at going 8-8. but with our luck we'll get tossed out via tiebreaking loss to the seahawks. |

| Let's just say that the Bears have had 0 luck getting a wild card with 9 and even 10 wins so don't count on it happening for the Lions. |

5 of the 6 undefeated teams currently lead their division.
There are three undefeated teams in the NFC, one being a non division leader.
That's three playoff spots there.
You have two more division leaders that will finish above .500 which makes five spots.
The final wildcard is a toss up but I'm fairly certain. Considering only 12 teams in the history of the league have made the playoffs with a .500 record or lower, it's safe to assume the final wildcard spot belongs to a winning team.
In the AFC, there are also three undefeated teams, all three leading their division.
Assuming the other division team finishes above .500 (see above stat about .500 or worse teams), that's left with two wildcard spots. Again, using the same logic, it's safe to assume every team will finish above .500.
So no. |

It's not really unheard of though.
the last time with 6 undefeated teams was 2002, but 2013 had 5, as did 2009. |
