| I don't think school should be a mandatory thing but child labor laws and all that. Anyway, is it even legal to drop out of high-school? I know one of my sister's friends dropped out and now works at a fast food chain. But is that legal? |

It's illegal if you are under 18.
And I don't see why you want to work at McDonalds your whole life. |

I agree. Personally I think school should be mandatory up until 4 years of college, and you shouldn't be given voting rights until you graduate with a degree. |

Buy you don't have any rights at 16, so if your parents don't approve then you still have to go to school. |

Well, seeing that society gives you things, and there is a price to everything, i think an education is fair.
Society gives you a house (granted you paid for it), and you return the favor to society by becoming a WORKING member of society.

@fancy
yeah well in some poor families and stuff your parents either do not care or you have someone like your old grandma who is dying as your legal guardian so you pretty much do what you want.
i'm just saying at 16 you can drop out. i guess if you want to drop out but parents dont approve you can wait until 18. |

Just saying, not everyone is bound to do well in school, so give them a choice. There's lots of work to be done in this country and if we had kids actually work instead of slack off with homework, we could get rid of that entitlement problem and benefit the economy greatly.
Of course the only remaining problem would be mistreatment of the kids. There'd need to be trustworthy supervisors. |

Right, but I don't think it would be a good idea to give children under the age of 16 the right to decide whether or not they want to continue their academic work.

Are you implying that homework is a waste of time and child labor will benefit our country much more?
Are you implying children could (help) fix the economy?!

I'm not saying you need to have a gun pointed to your head to go to school.
It should be illegal in the same way that not having health insurance is illegal. You're highly taxed for it. I also don't think you should have voting rights.
Sure, you CAN drop out of school. But until you get that degree, you will face a ton of punishments.
I also think school should be free. So, school is free, you can come back whenever you want. There's absolutely no good reason to drop out rather than being a lazy-ass waste of human space.
>"Of course the only remaining problem would be mistreatment of the kids. There'd need to be trustworthy supervisors."
Supervisors don't help, since most mistreated kids never come forwards in the first place. |
