I'm in a moral dilemma right now, as I want to play MGS 1, but have nothing to play it on, and what I do have to play it on, it's far too expensive.
For the Gamecube ( I have a Wii ): 70$ I'd have to buy a PS3, and then whatever the Legacy Collection costs Or, for the PC, it's 200$
One of the big points that I think it is moral is that if I bought any of those, it would be second-hand on Amazon or E-Bay, and none of the money I'd spend would be taken away from Konami. The problem with emulating recent games is that you don't pay the makers, but seeing as they don't make the game anymore, there is no way I can pay them, unless I get a PS3 and the Legacy Collection. My dad would never allow this, either, which adds another layer of complication.
What are your thoughts?

| There's nothing wrong with emulating, pirating, etc. It's driven by increased prices. Think of it as a consumer counter-attack. |

| I emulate old games all the time, especially if they're nigh impossible to find now days. Plus, it's MGS, it's worth emulating. To make you feel better, you could emulate it, then send Kojima some money. |

Just buy the PS1 copy on ebay and emulate it if you feel bad about piracy.

It's perfectly fine if you own a hard physical copy of the game.
If the company still wants to attack you despite having the money you gave them then they're idiots and don't deserve your money in the first place.
You bought a copy of the game, you get the play it. A lot of these old games had a EULA that direct and simple. Even if they wanted to complain over piracy because you got someone else's ROM and not the ROM from your cartridge, you're still within the license they gave you. You gave them money. You get to play game.
Now the legality of that is in the grey, but I don't think a ton of companies (Besides Microsoft with Windows 10) are going to spend the time, money, and effort into making sure all of their old games are protected and not being pirated.
Now within the games industry I hear a lot of developers quietly saying that they're cool with it if you don't have any access period to the original copy and it's like 10 years old.
Though Japan could be very different.
It's the whole you're happy people get to see it and less about money, because if it was about money you'd be making word processing programs and operating systems and making loads of money working for a tech company selling things like Adobe does.

See, pirating may be wrong, I'm not going to delve into that. But emulating, that's cool if you're playing an old game which is hard to get now, and MGS1 sure is. They don't even earn much nowadays, not much at all, Just don't try to emulate a new game would be inmorale/moral depending on you. Of course, in the end, it all depends on you, we're just here to share our thoughts.
