Does a meteor destroy the Earth if a bad word is said? No?
What makes them so bad? They're just words. |

Because most of them mean rude things.
Someone told me you remind them of an Owl. |

Well, they're called 'bad' words because they typically have negative or unfavorable connotations behind them. It's not so much the word, but the meaning behind the word.

What makes something like defection any better than the "s-word"?
How come a word like "fat" isn't a bad word but it can apparently be worse than actual bad words? |

| The thing that makes "bad words" bad is culture and how it was used throughout history. |

Because that word you're referring to was decided one day by some random person to be used a word for negativity, and it was caught on and was officially over time known as a negatively used word.

@Robo,
How is it not polite? Its just another word, and it conveys the same meaning. I can say defecation and no one would have a problem, but if I blurt the "s-word", its apparently worse. |

@exov,
So why is fat not a bad word? In that case, all words of negativity should be bad words. |

@Algebras
So you're saying bad words are bad because they're negative? Using that logic, EVERY SINGLE NEGATIVE WORD should be banned.
Why is a word like fat acceptable to say but these "bad words" are not? |
