I just came back from a long leave of absence to build some things and am finding that it seems I have to hold the 'alt' key constantly due to the studio assuming I want to select things constantly.
Even when I'm holding the alt key, sometimes I end up with erratic behavior and it's overall a frustrating building experience.
Please tell me there's some way to build without constantly having to hold 'alt' in studio. |

Un-group everything and keep it as its own individual part. Ctrl + Alt allows you to click on multiple parts in a model.

Is your concern that you have to hold alt because all your parts are grouped & the alt key is necessary to select one single part?
You may benefit from switching tools. Of course, I'll plug my own, but it just has a different group-selection mechanism. Click to select a part, double click to select its group, triple click to select that group's group (if you like big hierarchies), and so on. http://www.roblox.com/Build-v4-item?id=143383965
Other than that, your solution might be to ungroup everything. Or figure out a way to "lock" alt key into the depressed mode. Maybe if you depress it, switch windows, release it, it will be stuck? |

It's not that everything's grouped. I just started a new baseplate and have been working off of that. And it's not an issue of selecting. Actually, it's the other way around.
I can't /manipulate/ the part without holding down alt. IE, resizing, dragging with anchors, etc. I can select parts just fine, holding down alt or not. But when I go to manipulate them, I need to hold down the alt key, otherwise it tries to select whatever's behind the part, or just deselect altogether. |

| Yeah, I just updated and it seems like that was the culprit. I'm not gonna speak too soon, but it /looks/ like this is solved. |
