So in the eyes of a new comer to scripting, how would you feel about instead of writing code someone made a plugin to drag and drop code and easily write simple but effect plugins debug and export them all in one interface.
say "OH YES GREAT GARY" for approval
say "nawhoamie" for disapproval.
Serious thread please discuss. |

| NO. Scripting would not be taken easily anymore, and no one will learn anymore. DO NOT MAKE THIS GAME LIKE SCRATCH. The beauty is you actually have more freedom in this game. Pleasee don't you dare make it. |

whilst it would be nice to have it, this will be super time consuming because you'll have to script all possible code blocks.
plus, if you want to have drag and drop, check out Scratch . mit . edu |

| Rip's reason is why code blocks are terrible. Noobs will make crap games and if I wanted to use code blocks, I'd be at scratch right now. |

| Drag-and-drop will not make it easier to learn scripting. Dragging and dropping blocks of whatever is completely different than raw code, so even if you use drag-and-drop blocks for 5 years in a row, you still won't improve at scripting, and you're in the same place you started. If you want to make it easier for new people to jump into scripting, you should just publish a bunch of models new scripters could potentially want, and because they'll want to make tweaks here and there they'll improve over time the more models they edit. |

(nevermind, fixed it)
Please, do not do this, for the love of all things holy.
Do you know how many more horrid games would flood to the front page, with your "scripting"? Many people wish to learn scripting, and if you were to make this flowmap/block coding, people would begin to be extremely lazy, and if they can't make the things they want with it, they will come to you and complain. You also do not want to have to deal with the support, if you do, I salute you.
Think of all of the 10 year olds trying to make an extremely complex game, with FE, and they can't due to limitations of flowmap coding? You would either have to be very helpful with the support, or make sure that every single term in Lua is included in there, and you should also include a guide on how to use it, as well as documentation, otherwise you will be bombarded with questions.
Also, think of how neat it is right now to know Lua. Only around 20-30% of users today know Lua, and that's what makes us scripters/developers special. We know things that others don't, and we can make imagine - we can make. That's the power of scripting, and to be able to have that ability, you must learn. Whether it be through YouTube tutorials, Wiki documentation, or a friend giving a helping hand, you still learn.
Think of Lua as a family parliament, every member of the family has learned Lua, and has taught their children, as it has been a gift passed down from generation, to generation. Next, think of your idea of flowmap coding. You create that, have children, and then give them that. They don't have to learn anything, they just drag and drop until things work, breaking the family parliament. Don't be that guy.

No.
Apart from that it would be difficult to engineer from a design standpoint, I think noobs would just come here asking how to use that plugin and we'd just slaughter them all mercilessly. |
