All you'd need would be static maps (or dynamically made ones), use GetTouchingParts, CFrame lerp the men count, and use magnitude to tell if soldiers encounter eachother, and add a pathfinding of connected parts to get the fastest way to the destination, yes?

Please do share with a progress log/ some sort of open source with it, Im interested in making on myself, love analyzing other peoples code, and seeing how much differently i would do something.

It'd be easier if you just ditched all of that and started from the bottom instead of trying to work your way down through ROBLOX's wonky physics API. By that, I mean, you shouldn't have to deal with :GetTouchingParts, you shouldn't have to deal with magnitude or anything like that. You should know what nodes there are and what soldiers are there, and your code should create a "view" of the logic, which is separate.

Maybe you should work on learning better programming practices before you criticize!

That's not dynamic enough and not really worth it. I don't see a point in this.

Then you don't really know what you're doing. This was obvious from your initial post, though.

Why waste your time and the server's CPU's time? You should look up the MVC paradigm, it could teach you a lot. The way you're going about it, your game logic will be too tied up with the presentation and you *will* run into trouble trying to expand upon it. What if you wanted to change how something looks without changing how the game works?

You are like one of those new Scripters who just found out that the best thing ever is to remove the parentheses on everything possible BECUZ EFFICNEICIEZ1111.

That is completely unnecessary.

The node system will be as dynamic as I need it to be and the maps are fairly small, so I really have no reason to do anything else.

As stupid as a2d8 is, he has a point. There should be no need to use GetTocuhingParts/etc, you could be far more efficient if you have a lookup table.

GetTouchingParts is used to make the data structure itself, not to actually do anything in it of itself. Like a helper function.

So can you please explain to me why it is *soooooo awful* to have GetTouchingParts set up the data structure?

If I want to change the framework I change how I enter the data into the data structure. It'd be very easy for me to redo.

Because you're letting ROBLOX control how your game functions. ROBLOX is unpredictable. It is far less work to create your data structure yourself and create the visual representation from it.

If I want to create the data structure myself later on I just write a new function call. It's not necessary. The amount of effort is definitely not worth it.
