I'm sitting here thinking of whether or not this is a good thing, Because how much of that 400 hours is going to be actually fun gameplay?
I'm just so sick of people comparing games depending on how many hours it would take to complete a game it's just such a stupid metric,
Skyrim has a 100 hours of content but I only enjoyed the first 20 hours
Team fortress 2 has a mere 5 hours of content yet I played that for 250 hours
I'd rather play 20/5 hours of well made, well designed, well paced content, than waste 300 hours of skinner box side quests and monotonous gameplay for the same price tag
Now I think bethesda knows how to balance the Quantity vs Quality thing very well
But please.. just stop, it's not a valid measurement,
I enjoyed Deus Ex HR far more than I enjoyed any AC game I enjoyed Dishonored far more than I enjoyed any TES game
So just stop comparing games based on length..

fdfxd does it again. Good point here.
This is why even if a review says "it's only 8 hours" I at least think "But is all 8 hours fun?" And if it is, I then look at the price. 8 hours of fun is the minimum amount I set, as I'm not paying even $5 for 5 hours of gameplay. |

An example of a game that only a fraction of it was fun for me: Castle In The Darkness. I played 24 hours, but I think only about 12 of those hours were fun, the rest was just frustrating and cheap deaths. (I'm pretty sure it made use of the health bar in the way of falling spikes a few times...It also adopted bad game design because "old games did it, therefore it's good" like 1-shot spikes everywhere.)
That's what you get when an artist makes a game... (Even if it's the one from Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, good artist =/= good game designer.) |

That's pretty much the Ubisoft mentality
Gameplay is pretty generic but at least we have a lot of the same activities

Okay
Best Mario Kart game ever Bowser shells are OP but make the game at least 10 times more enjoyable The drifting was good, it wasn't weird like with MK Wii 4 player split screen a gamemode dedicated to bombs Each weight class has pros and cons, like how smaller characters are faster and accelerate better but are easier to kick off the edge 2 players in one kart, though you can ruin friendships like that Don't have to do ridiculously hard BS like beat Nintendo people in time trials to unlock stuff All cup tour gamemode Had a lot of fun memorable tracks like DK Mountain, Waluigi Stadium, Wario Colosseum, and Baby Park (if you picked Bowser and Bowser Jr on that track, you're a horrible person)
10/10 best game |

Witcher promised 200+ hours of gameplay.
I enjoyed all the time I spent with it.
Now I'm saving for a good pc to re play witcher 3 again.

I enjoyed Deus Ex HR far more than I enjoyed any AC game I enjoyed Dishonored far more than I enjoyed any TES game [2] the one game with 9999999 hours of content so far looks like pure fun, hope it can live up to hype [no mans sky]

It's not a good thing. Games being judged on the amount of content is definitely bad. Devs think what people want are long games like Skyrim, but we don't. Quantity is good, but only if the quality is there. Look at portal, a length of just 4 hours. If the developers had made it longer the content would be stretched so thin it wouldn't be good anymore. Long game lengths are more of a marketing gimmick than anything with real substance. If you played an amazing game that was good start to finish you won't be complaining that the game was too short. One thing you do have to be careful of is to charge the right price though. You wouldn't want to pay $60 for a game that's short and mediocre *cough* *cough* Order 1886. Games are trending towards boring slogs through heaps of content not worth your time. Not to say that games like Skyrim and Witcher 3 aren't good, they are in their own ways, but a lot of the time it isn't done as well, and even these games don't have the same moment-to-moment fun gameplay that games like Transistor and Thief (2000, not 2014). Games shouldn't be designed to occupy as much of your life as possible, that's what MMOs are for. And that's just so they can suck the most money out of you as possible. People shouldn't have to convince the game they're playing is worth the money with the hours played, it should be how much they enjoyed it in a single session. With more content the polish goes down and so does the game design. Open world games stretched to 200 hours will never be as immersive as a good linear game. We wouldn't watch a movie that's 5 hours long over another just because it takes more time to complete, so we shouldn't have the same mindset with video games.
Quality > Quantity.

Apparently you don't follow the quality > quantity rule.
