The United States Marine Corps is an organized fighting force, lead by Officers, who lead Marines in combat. Officer Candidate School ensures the successful transfer from a Enlisted to an Officer, who has the ability to lead Marines in combat situations. To partake in Officer Candidate School, one must have reached the rank of E-6 Staff Sergeant but not yet have reached the rank of E9b Sergeant Major. If An E9b Sergeant Major wishes to attend Officer Candidate School, they must first resign from their current position and be demoted to E-6 Staff Sergeant.
