I posted this about a year ago on the devforums, right when player points were making an emergence in places and clans, and Roblox was about to reveal whatever event we had last year.
Also, due to the Roblox filter, I'll have to paste this in pieces.
______________________________
Clans have existed for a long time and they've formed in very specific ways
It's not crazy to say clans are a big part of Roblox
Clans bring in users from every corner of the site who want to challenge themselves and make a name for themselves in the world of clans. Ultimately it's about your ability to make an impact on an environment/ group through whatever tools you got.
Roblox seem to have a misunderstanding about what these tools are.
In the world of clans, you or your group can get "known" for a variety of reasons. Combat, honor, trustworthiness, ruthlessness; a lot of it has to do with theming and how you're portrayed. Sometimes your impression doesn't even need anything to back it up. It's mostly bark and no bite; well there is bite, but the format it's in is very tough to determine a "winner", excluding landslide raids.
It's about image. About getting that image out there. If you're able to back it up, that gives you what everyone in the clan world wants: influence.
Influence is what makes impacts and changes in the clan world. Users who hold a large status/ history can announce they're leaving a clan and join another, with lots of people knowing about it and watching. They can split off and make their own clan, and depending on their skills/ image, they can garner enough influence.
Clans don't want points. Clans want influence.
Roblox's attempts to address the clan world and create features are somewhat misguided. Roblox seems to not fully understand what the clan world needs/ could use to thrive off of.
They seem to be introducing more game-y aspects that can be... Misleading in the end. If you hold a contest for clans to garner the most points in a contest, you'll end up with the top 10 being clans that no one has ever heard of/ cares about. All because the format only took gaming abilities into account, and ZERO other factors.
This is not how clans want to be represented. It takes more than just fighting ability/ gaming ability to be a top clan. To say that that's what it's all about robs it of all of the great qualities that make clans on Roblox unique.
I can't explain what influence in the clan world is, or how one attains it; all I can say is what tools would and wouldn't be beneficial.

A while back there has been word about clan specific forums. This is fantastic. This would cause clans to be more organized and communicative with one another.
The clan world NEEDS communication. They need tools that allow them to say "This is what our clan is about and what it stands for. We're picking fights with [X and Y] and here is our pride."
The only ways for clans to do this at the moment is through ads, appearances of clan bases on the front page (No longer a thing) and the low quality forum dedicated to them.
And then through raids which are very group specific. If clan Green and clan Red have an epic battle, clan Cyan, Grey, and Purple have no idea it's occurring.
Clans are all about involvement and knowing the "scene" as it may. What events, governed by the clans and leaders themselves, are taking place between what opposing forces. Being able to just be AWARE of stuff like this happening means something.

If there was a page or SOMETHING showing "# of battles" between certain clans, that is enough to get across that "HEY! Something EPIC is happening! Will you take a side? Will your clan be involved?"
Tools that allow clans to display and advance their influence. Great e-v-i-I o-v-e-r-I-o-r-d (--roblox filters--) wages war on another clan; even if big e-v-i-I o-v-e-r-I-o-r-d is losing, if he manages to make a war that's 5,000 battles large, which brings in the involvement of many other clans and communities he's still able to show his influence. Even if he loses, he pretty much won that if by a command or sentence he can cause that much of an impact or stir in the world of clans.
In short: It's not all about the game-y aspect of who can get the most points; it's about influence and your clan's ability to make a stir or impact in the clan world.
Please focus on tools/ events that take this into consideration, and don't devalue or bring clans down to something as menial and... narrow as "who can get most KOs in x time"
That doesn't encompass or even take into consideration such a large part of clans. |
