Eons ago the valiant Knights of Redcliff and the brave Knights of the Splintered Sky were allies against the Korblox, the vicious savages of the Robloxia wastelands. Eventually the Knights overcame their foe and the Korblox went back into hiding deep into the wasteland.
One hundred years ago the differences between the Redcliff and Splintered Sky empires became stark. The Knights of the Splintered Sky were a very religious group, many considered to be zealots. The Knights of Redcliff however disliked religion and considered themselves above it. These two empires looked down on the other's beliefs but put their differences aside to destroy the Korblox. Since the Korblox were but forgotten relics of the past the two empires had nothing to bind them together and diplomacy began to break down. Eventually trade decreased, insults were constantly thrown and hatred flared.
Twelve years ago prince Alexander XXI, Alar Knight of the Splintered Skies had a goal of bringing back proper diplomacy between the two nations. He planned to go on a grand journey to Tear, the capital of Redcliff, bearing gifts and promises of wealth and fortune to the Redcliff royalty. The Redcliff royalty were delighted that trade could resume between the empires after so long. Alexander departed the next day on the long journey back to Pinnacle, his home city.
Along the way a band of disgraced Redcliff knights were wandering around as usual looking for travelers to rob until they spotted the prince and all of his riches. The band planned an ambush farther up the the road despite all of the prince's escorts. The risk would be high but the reward would be extraordinary. It was a heavily forested area so hiding was easy, especially for trained knights of Redcliff. Hours later the prince passed the ambush and a hail of arrows greeted his back. All but one bounced off his armour. The final arrow hit the only weak spot in the prince's armour, a small hole in the neck only existing so knights would not turn their backs and retreat from battle. In the instant the arrow hit the prince dropped dead off his horse. The band then continued firing into the panicked crowd of Splintered Sky knights. The knights of the Splintered Sky could not fight back because it was nearly impossible to see their aggressors in such a thick forest. The only thing that could be seen by the knights of the Splintered Skies was the red crest of Redcliff from a poorly hidden Redcliff knight. The knights of the Splintered Sky retreated bearing the terrible news of the prince's death.
Days later the royalty of the Splintered Sky were furious when they heard about the death of the beloved Alexander XXI. Most believed it was a Redcliff conspiracy. Within twenty-four hours the First Battalion of the Splintered Skies was on the march to attack the empire of Redcliff and thus the long war began. |
