Over the past seven years I have been an aspiring game developer here on ROBLOX, but my success has been very limited. Either I lose faith in a project, or it's too large to finish alone, or sometime during development someone else has released a similar game. Along the way I met and befriended a very talented programmer, and we've been collaborating on projects ever since.
We finished a game in 2012 called 'Anterior' which reached the front page. It wasn't our best work, but it was popular.
However since then we've not been able to complete any of our further projects, mostly due to the scope of them. I can perform all of the roles of a game developer, from getting the initial ideas, working out the balance and mechanics of a game, prop and map building, code, graphic art (A+ intermediate college Photoshop), and sound design, but the problem is that with only two people working on projects of this scale, the development time is at least six months. Taking into account how quickly ROBLOX updates and changes, that means that any game we complete will be partially or completely outdated upon release.
This is where you potentially will come in. We are looking for skilled developers to become partners in our studio (Verdant Softworks), to decrease production time but also to increase diversity and have more voices pitching cool ideas.
If you decide to step forward and contact us and you prove yourself skilled enough in your area of expertise, then you will certainly be brought on as a part-time developer, and be paid per task. After we get to know you and your potential is fully understood, we will consider promoting you to a full-time position and giving you a percentage of the company. Depending on your talents and dedication, this could be anywhere from 4 to 8%. These shares will increase with the company's success.
Now for the details.
-= Requirements for all partners =-
1. Communication is essential to any team, and this one is no exception. Skype is preferred but if you feel there is a better group voice/text communication software we could use, then I want to hear about it.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. You must accept that money will be very, very tight in the initial phase of the company. This doesn't mean you won't be paid, but I will have to pay you out of my own pocket and I am not Donald Trump.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. You must accept the risks involved with big game development projects. We may slave over a project for months on end, only for it never to become a success. This is how the game industry works, and although it's an expensive gamble, it has the potential to pay off in a huge way.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. You need to have thick skin, and not get too butt-hurt if your content isn't used. For example if a prop is needed for a project, then that task may potentially be given to all available builders. Whoever's prop is best will be used. It's as simple as that. Again, this doesn't mean you won't be paid for it.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5. You must have passion, but also know when to let your precious babies go. Passion for what you're working on is crucial, however if a project hits a dead end and we need to change goals, you must to be able to live with letting your work go unfinished for the time being.
-= Requirements specifically for Builders =-
1. Must use ROBLOX Studio, no exceptions. If you don't use Studio that's fine, but working without Studio causes too many issues to deal with, especially in a collaborative environment.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Must have efficiency and game performance in mind when building objects. It might look nice to use 1,000 bricks to make a gun model, but the FPS problems associated with that won't feel nice. Must have or be able to adopt the concept that less can represent more.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. Must be able to build a wide variety of props. Depending on the project the studio is currently working on, this could include the FPS staples (boxes, barrels, shipping containers) or unusual and unexpected things such as a 1964 Volks Wagen Beetle.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. All builders must be able to work with CSG objects. This is an absolute must. Even though not all objects will be CSG Unions, quite a few of them will be and you need to be able to work on your own, or edit other developer's CSGs.
-= Requirements specifically for Graphic Artists =-
1. Please have Photoshop, or something equivalent. I don't really care how you get it, it's just too powerful a tool not to use. As well I work often in Photoshop, and that would allow us to share documents and improve on each other's work.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. A college class is preferred, but not mandatory. If you have taken a college Photoshop class, then welcome aboard. If you have not that's fine too, but you need to be at least college level in your knowledge and proficiency of Photoshop.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. You must be open to working with textures. A large part of the design of any game is the texture work. This can include both map and prop textures as well as retexturing meshes. If you aren't experienced with texture work, I can help you learn it but it is greatly preferred that you already know what you're doing.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. If you do not want to work with textures, then you must be skilled at designing UI. Almost every game the studio produces will have GUI elements, and preferably these will have art associated with them. If you have any experience working with GUI art, that is very valuable.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5. If you do not want to do texture work or UI design, then regular art works too. Concept art is not required, but it is very helpful. If you are a talented artist who can take a good idea and represent it in a painting or sketch, that will help our builders have a better understanding in what they are going for and speed development time. Aside from concept art we will need menu art, and often objects in the game have some kind of art on them as well (i.e a poster on a wall, or a vending machine).
-= Finishing statements =-
Firstly, I can't believe you've read all this monstrous word-wall to this point without getting bored and leaving. Damn good job.
Secondly, we don't need any full coders at this time. As a builder, if you can program or have an understanding of it, that is very valuable. But if you are strictly a programmer, we do not require your services at this time. (this is liable to change in the future)

| Hello. I am a very talented builder. Although I do script a bit, I can build probably 10 times better. Out of all the forum posts requesting a team, this one attracted me the most. I can help. I do not request any form of payment, and if I'm accepted, I will PM you my Skype. |

Hey guys,
Recently I've been working very hard on an AutoWelder object that can automatically weld objects in you game. It saves a lot of time.
http://www.roblox.com/Auto-Welder-item?id=279798718
Took me a while to make and I'd appreciate if you used it. Just place it into workspace and your set!
Good luck on your builds!

I'm going to try and address everyone here with one post.
@LunaScripter; That 4-8% is on top of being paid per task. As well, if you consider that the average successful game makes around $250,000 a year, that would mean $10,000 to $20,000 a year, which for the amount of work I am expecting is quite a lot of pay.
@8BitDeveloping; College level Photoshop proficiency is not much to ask for. In your average college class, you will learn how to use all of the most used tools, when and where they should be applied and most of the useful tricks. I'm not asking for professionals here.
@TheViralReplicator; In all my years on this forum, I've never seen someone advertise on someone else's thread before. What the hell are you doing, just make your own thread.
@FireLucet; I'm sorry to see that you've changed your mind. The position will always be open in the future, and if you know anyone that would be interested I'd very much appreciate it if you showed them this post.

@Voidion; It all depends on what our lead programmer needs. Sometimes two people can have different philosophies or styles when it comes to code, and that can cause problems if both are scripting things that need to work together.
If he doesn't mind having someone else on the project, then we'd love to have you on board. |

I'm a builder. It's not as straight forward as that but I was hoping to help out in developing.
The small sample on my page isn't the best example but there is always more. |

4-8% shares just kills it.
Also, I don't think any games have made more than 250k USD in a year yet, Unless you're talking about Robux, which is very low. |

hey 8bit I think the point he was trying to make was that there are not *that many* people in college on this website. let's think for a moment: the demographic targeted by this game's advertisements is *not* aspiring graphical artist majors in their sophomore or junior year of college.
it may be worth it to lower your standards, or try to meet them yourself. |

That actually sounds like a good studio to me.
I am interested but my pc is broken so I will not be able to get on skype or studio until I either fix it or get a new one, that period of time could be a few weeks to a few months.
My skill is programming. I have good understanding of the Lua language, pure Lua and roblox's version. I am able to work with and around other programmers and their code, although if I see something that can be optimized I will try to optimize it without changing it too much.
Even though my pc is broken I can write code without it on my phone as I have a hardware keyboard for my phone.
About the payment. I don't understand what people are complaining about. 4-8% is plenty of payment and he said it would increase as the studio grew. |

@AecTalek; I do meet my own standards. I know multiple graphic designers who have either taken college Photoshop, or are nearing the same level of knowledge. It is not much to ask for.

that's amazing, you know people who are graphic designers who have taken college Photoshop intro. you can't "near the same level of knowledge" without taking the class, as it's taught entirely different.
you just don't really understand what i'm getting at, do you? |

| Someone can learn how to use Photoshop to roughly the same level without having taken a class. |
