| @KeIpies I use Debian for my desktop PC (the distro that Ubuntu is based on) and Arch for my laptop (it gives you a command line and makes you configure the OS from the ground up, but provides a great learning experience) |

| Debian is a perfect balance of Linux in terms of difficulty. Everyone has their views (see: Ubuntu and Mint devs), but in my opinion, if you're not into learning the ins and outs of Linux, it would be easier to stick to an OS designed from the ground up for user friendliness. |

It's worth it though! Understanding your system means if anything goes wrong, you know how to fix it. It gives you a sense of comfort.
And when you figure things out, you can locate the perfect distro that fits your needs. Being able to fully master a system and call it your own makes you feel powerful. |

It's not hard at all. The hardest part is getting over the idea that doing things from a command line an understanding stuff is for geniuses. Anyone can do it.
The Linux command line (aka terminal) is based on an old OS called UNIX. Start by looking up some tutorials on how to navigate the filesystem using the command line. Once you're familiar with it, the best way to go is to figure out things on your own via Google. Everything has an idiot-proof explanation.
Eventually you can get a feel for it, and start looking into the inner workings of a Linux system. You can try more difficult distros that require more configuration and setup. Every time you successfully take one of those steps, you'll understand, and it'll get easier for you. |

I agree don't do Ubuntu
they're trying to make everything seamlessly user friendly, which is where it fails, because it does nothing more than restrict the features of Linux by teaching its users that point-and-clicking through stylized menus works for everything
for Windows and OSX it's alright, but making Linux like that just makes it a bad OS |
