other than the fact that the altitude of his plane didnt drop prior to the plane losing connection

I'm not too sure either, and you can see that it lost connection a while before and that turned out fine, the only hint at it was a slight decrease in speed before it lost connection.
The plane did have another emergency landing situation last March if you Google "CX478 crash", but it wasn't really too bad. |
