I usually quit cause it gets so hard/complex. Also it takes scripting knowledge that I just don't have.
I've decided finally to make a simple game, but I wonder if there are other people that do what I do? |

| I'm a decent scripter, but I try making stuff that only people who have been scripting for YEARS can make. |

| Haha I think the majority of devs abandon projects! Perhaps you're giving yourself too steep a learning curve maybe? |

Maybe, but I think I'll make a simple game, build up, then go back to my old projects that I left unfinished. |

"Probably a good idea"
I think I'll make a shooter that has SOME stuff that I don't know, which will help me learn.
Maybe I could make it complex overtime? |

You have to pick an 'advanced' project other wise you'll be too bored to do anything.
What the hell are you even creating that takes "years" to learn how to make?! |

| I do this all the time. I'm working on a much more simpler easier to finish product, and I'm taking baby steps with it. |

Its best to stick to small projects that further improve your skill until you know you can make bigger projects that need that knowledge.

I'm actually planning to do this, but I don't want to make it so basic that it's cliche, which is why I'm thinking of an idea. |

I tried making a Turn-based strategy game, along the lines of XCOM: Enemy Unknown.
Google it if you don't know what that is.

I can agree with this. I tend to jump the gun and purchase the group (I have a lot of roleplaying clan ideas) and buy all the ranks, but over a week I just become bored. I need constant variety. Thankfully I've latched onto an idea I have and I'm not letting go this time. Hopefully I can finish a project for once.
The key is to pay people though. You can't expect yourself to do everything alone. It takes some sort of team effort to get it done. I plan on paying somebody to script. I just need substantial material to get them interested. |

I lack motivation, I'll get hyped when I think of a game to make, but halfway through actually creating it, that's it. Throw it away and repeat.
If not you, then who? If not now, then when? |

I have given up on every single game project I ever started on roblox.
I have all the scripting knowledge I could ever need but no motivation.
I also suck at building/design and that saps what little motivation I can get.

At pretty much everyone above here's a few things I do.
- Don't pick a huge project that's going to have to be absolutely complete to actually work. Break it down into smaller sections that you can work with without getting frustrated/bored. - If you get bored easily, try having 2 or 3 completely different projects going at the same time. That way if you find yourself bored with one of them, one of the others may keep you motivated. - Set realistic goals/timeframes and try to keep them.
I am much better at building rather than scripting, so I hope these work as well for your scripting issues as they do for me. |
