Why not the Gameboy Pocket?
The original Gameboy DMG-01 had quite a bit of problems. The number one that really bothers me is the screen's ghosting. Nobody ever talks about it and it was unbearable for my Gameboy.
Basically, when you're running fast in a platformer game like Super Mario Land, there is a blurry delay that is called ghosting. It looks like this: https://twitter.com/Sheldetin/status/624996437974196224 The one to the left is what it looks like when you're moving on Super Mario Land.
I understand that the original Gameboy is a major logo for all portable devices nowadays, but the people who mod the original Gameboys to play them with a backlight and amps are either chiptune makers or aren't really playing games that move too much. If you want a classic Gameboy to mod that plays amazingly and feels great, go with a Gameboy Pocket.

GBA SP with backlight is the best version. Period.
It's backwards compatible with all versions of the GB. |

My second complaint about the original Gameboy: weak screens
I understand that the technology for portable gaming was primitive for its time, but classic Gameboys do this and it's a let down. Gameboy Pockets do not. If you're going to buy a Gameboy Original, look out for screen lines. Some Gameboy Originals have lines in the LCD because the screen is wearing out after 26 years. If the lines are vertical, they may be fixed by using a heat gun, but if the lines are horizontal, then you are screwed and you will not get them off.
These lines do not occur in the Gameboy Pocket or later Gameboy iterations due to the advancement of LCDs, with the much lower amount of ghosting in the Gameboy Pocket. Then there's the last screen defect that ruins practically any Gameboy for its life; screen blotches.
With classic LCDs, some of them have these black little fuzzy blotches. They are absolutely impossible to remove, and if your Gameboy Original has them, then RIP. |

"GBA SP with backlight is the best version." I don't really agree with this because of its ergonomics, but hey, it's my opinion. I even grew up with one. I just feel that it is too uncomfortable to play against, say, a Gameboy Advance (original) or Gameboy Color. I do love the clicky buttons instead of the membrane buttons though, that was a great touch. |

| I once tried the Gameboy Micro and it felt great too, but from what I remember, it didn't support older games. |

"why do you want to play on a gameboy" They had some pretty great games on them. I don't feel like emulating the games with my phone because I collect Gameboys as a hobby (so why not just use them) and it's more authentic to play it on the system that it was designed for. |

I don't really find any of the games on my phone as fun. Most of them are just heavily based on micro-transactions or are very mediocre. I don't base my fun on graphics, either. I loved the style of the 8-bit and 16-bit era for some reason. |

"People who do modify it are stupid" I think that adding a backlight to a Gameboy Color is not a bad modification at all, but adding amps and overclocking Gameboy Originals is just overkill. |

Oh, that. Well, I assume you could do that, but like what I said before, I feel that it is more authentic just to play it on an older gameboy. |

"seems like a cry of attention to be seen different idkk" It's not a cry of attention, it's just me having a preference I guess. It's like playing NES on a 60 inch flatscreen 3D 4K resolution TV compared to some 1986 CRT TV. I'd like to play it on the TV that it was actually designed for. |
