Could you imagine how horrible? I know it's a terrible idea, but just think about it for a moment. |

I had a discussion about that in SFBC before.
Drag-And-Drop programming would be good and bad in certain aspects.
Drag-And-Drop (DAD) [lmao] programming, would DRAMATICALLY increase the quality of games on the Front Page as more people would be dragged into using that. Which is better for the community. And development is much faster.
However, DAD would not teach us the programming skills we have now. Which have sparked future careers to fall back onto or even take forward. Also, DAD would not be as efficient as raw programming. And you will have to get around certain things. |

Yeah, I kind of remember the shout of the discussion.
[Discussion] Back in 2006, ROBLOX were originally going to be using 'drag and drop' programming. However Erik Cassel said to use raw programming. Hit or miss?
It was something like that. |

drag & drop that compiles into regular scripts best of both worlds |

I think we would would certainly have more decent quality games with DAD, but there would rarely be any nice advancements as I doubt Roblox would want to make every single function into a dropper. |

| It could definitely work, but you'd have to learn so much of the api that you may as well just code it. |

yep thank god they never implemented it
would have been soooo bad and i wouldn't have ever sparked an interest for programming |

| I also believe it could make errors much more fatal, as everything would be linked to each other. |

The front page would be full of game faster, that's another advantage.
What do you mean by droppers? I would see it as something like Unreal Engines 'Blueprint' or something like Scratch. |

"DRAMATICALLY increase the quality of games"
Can I see a source for this? |

| Sorry, by "Dropper" I meant all the tile things that link together in programs like Scratch. It would just be an annoying task to have to add them. :( |

Why on earth would you need a source?
Most 'bad' quality games suffer from free models. Because the owner can't be asked to script.
This way of programming is easier. More easily understandable. |

They can be asked to script.
It's a matter of motivation. |

"Can I see a source for this?" I too disagree that it would dramatically increase the quality of games. |

| Motivation is something most people lack when it comes to programming, sadly. |

Ok then, isn't motivated enough to learn scripting..

| They feel that everything that can be made, has been made, so they just find something that fits well for what they need. |

Ok then.
Glance at the Front Page. I see about 7 bad quality games by todays standards. So let's average it out into like, 1 bad quality game per row.
Now, if DAD was implemented. All the 'bad' quality developers, WON'T have the motivation to learn to script. But can just 'drag' and then 'drop' whatever [cards or something] onto the editor. And bish bash bosh, their game is improved. |

"And bish bash bosh, their game is improved." Except it's not nearly this easy. You still need to develop programming skills even with a drag and drop system. Not only that, you need to be familiarized with the API too. If drag-and-drop was implemented you still wouldn't know how to make a gun with it, per say. The only thing drag and drop would help with is basic syntax. |

All programming is just that, programming. With its compiler it really is the same. The difference is what power it has over objects so yeah.
Oh and the binary it produces in the compiler. |

which looks more friendly/more inviting?
a drag and drop interface with colorful menus and stuff to choose from
or just a plain, white, text editor that says only this:
print("Hello world!")
and if you type any plain, natural words/natural language into the editor, it is underlined as red?
"developers" of bad games would more than likely be motivated to use a drag and drop interface. it would look more inviting, and easy to use. therefore, i think it would help make the quality of games better.
the only problem though:
drag and drop programming isn't as realistic |
