The Vineyard Society - Year 107
Theme - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yg-okiuauBQ
Introduction -
"Alright, nearly there," a younger man in front of you says in a bit a solemn tone, yet when he looked back, you noticed that he fakes a smile to try and lighten the mood. You try to return it, but it's difficult, especially in time such as these and times before this man had miraculously picked you up off the streets, sincerely saying that he wished to help with no catch at all. It was a difficult thing to do, trust anyone really, but this man's approach and the way he spoke somehow wondering. In regards to what happened before he found you... well, you keep your story to yourself for now at least, and instead follow this man, adjusting the straps of your backpack as you go.
After rounding about a few corners and walking some streets, you finally see what looks to be like the place this man and many others call home; an old church with a concrete wall lining around it and what seems to be a garden in the back. You also notice an apartment building directly on the church's right that looks well fortified too, especially when you spot the man on the roof who is clutching a rifle in his hand. He sees you looking at him and he took fakes a smile, giving you an awkward wave. Seems like he was on edge as well.
The man in front of you reaches the metal gates that leads into the church's courtyard, looking back at you with a smile on his face. "Hey, I'm glad to have you here and I'm sure everyone else will, too. I'll get you introduced and we'll have you fed and sheltered in a flash. I really hope you'll like it here," he says with sincerity and compassion, which was odd. People caring about your well-being? Before you had known none of this, and while it was odd... you welcomed it. You finally returned the man a feeble smile, and walked in through that gate where your new life finally began; at The Vineyard Society.
More information -
(Repost information.)
This is a repost, just an FYI. I want to expand upon the whole Vineyard Society thing by adding prequels and sequels to it while changing the setting and timezone later on once this roleplay dies or comes to an end. However before I do that, I would like to start back here at the roots of this idea before progressing further with it.
(Setting/Extra information.)
Based in the suburbs of an old city after a nuclear apocalypse that occurred about a hundred years ago, this roleplay will focus mainly on character interaction and what the life of a civilian would be like in times like these. The Vineyard Society is essentially a group that works together by helping one another and they have taken your character in. How long ago did they take you in, though? That will be for you to determine in your C.S. This roleplay WILL involve looting, firefights, and more events, but it is mainly meant to focus on the social aspects of the lives of the post apocalyptic survivors, so try to get to know one-another's characters for the sake of the roleplay! After all, it's not a roleplay if you're character is so one-sided and only interacts with themselves, it's writing a story from a character's point of view at that point.
(In-depth analysis of Vineyard's claimed buildings.)
The Vineyard Society got its name from the crossroads it's on - Vineyard Crossing. The group resides in a church on one of the corners, a building that has since lost its meaning to the world, and there is an apartment building right beside the church on the same street which serves as a sleeping quarters for the group. A Sick Bay, which is on the third and final story of the apartment building, treats to the wounded. The roof of the apartment building is where the guards stand watch over Vineyard and another guard will also stand watch in the bell tower of the church which can be accessed through a few makeshift ladders that have been assembled. There is a concrete wall that lines the perimeter of the church and it stands about 6 feet tall. This is including the one foot tall metal spikes that stand on top of the concrete. This, along with the barbed wire that had been assembled in place around these spikes, gives the society ample protection from looters and attackers.
The south wall of the church is an area where the names of the deceased are painted onto the wall. It's a tradition and a way to remember those who have died. Other than the wall, the dead have no other sort of remembrance since their bodies are cremated. Behind the church is a field with a small shed now used for storing food for the winter and some tools. The field is now used to cultivate crops and grow some herbs, though the yield is somewhat poor right now. Other than that, there are about twenty total survivors at Vineyard including yourselves (I control some NPCs, which I've already though out and written down, to balance this number out so we won't have 20 roleplayers. It'd be hectic, were that the case.)
Rules -
1. My word is law. 2. IC arguments and fights are fine, but OOC fights are not! No flaming, in other words 3. Generic RP rules. (No Garry Stues, Marry Sues, etc.) 4. Keep firearms, if your character possesses one, basic and attainable. (I don't want some military badasses with M249s rocking this roleplay. Capiche?) 5. Be active, for Heaven's sakes! Don't join and leave! 6. Be literate! Since it's character interaction for the most part, posts will be a bit lengthier, so try to make an effort! Try to refrain from one-liners! 7. You may reuse your old CSes if you signed up for this last time. 8. Enjoy yourselves. If you aren't, simply tell me what issues you are having. If they aren't resolvable, dropping out is perfectly acceptable if you choose to do so. All I ask is that you discuss the issues with me first.
Character Sheet (Keeping it sort of basic is fine. Check my CS, which will be posted soon after, if you're confused by the CS.) -

Name: Jasper Hundley Alias: N/A Age: 32 Physical Appearance: Standing at 5'11 and weighing in at 168 pounds, Jasper pretty much defines the physique of an average male. He has large hands and feet though, which sometimes have their use. His eyes are a dark brow, he has black, short hair, and he possessed an overall bronze skin tint which hints at his Native American heritage that has managed to carry through to him after many, many years. He often wears an old grey t-shirt, a pair of dirty, degraded khakis, and some worn leather boots when the weather is nice out. Once it gets cold, he adds on yet another pair of khakis for more warmth and a black hoodie to keep his upper body warm. Other than that, he always keeps his grey schoolbag on for carrying spare items around and he has a holster for his sidearm. Items and Weapons: Jasper carries around a 9mm Glock 17 and wields K-BAR knife. Biography: N/A Member For: Seven years. Other: |

Name: Heinrich Alasmier
Alias: N/A
Gender: Male.
Age: Late twenties.
Physical Appearance: Heinrich is an average height man, though a little bit underweight, he has a charming set of sky-blue colored eyes and well-kept black hair, combed to the right on what seems like an hourly basis. Heinrich has a light stubble, along with thin eyebrows, all put together with a very bold, squared-up chin. He wears a heavy, dirt-colored coat with a Romanian flag patch on it, with a blank white t-shirt under it. His pants are a mundane set of darkened olive-drab colored trousers, finalized with black, tactical, boots.
Items and Weapons: Carrying a Mosin Nagant M59 carbine with two and three fifths strlpper clips, he also utilizes a Swiss Army Knife whenever possible. Items he carries include a compass, ballpoint pen, hair comb, and a dollar coin.
Skills: Being a decent shot with the iron sights of his carbine, Heinrich has had plenty of practice cycling the bolt on the Mosin Nagant. He has an assortment of his own knots, and has is highly experienced in making something out of nothing when it comes to scrap metal and wood planks. His appearance and voice give him the ability to charm and convince people, but he has absolutely no medical experience past putting a stick-on Band-Aid onto a mere cut. Heinrich isn't an amazingly fast runner, but when walking or jogging could last a few miles before taking a break.

| (Doesn't look like we'll get any other joiners in on this, at least not right now. The world-wall probably scared off a lot of the new roleplayers anyway. Are you guys clear for a start sometime tomorrow morning? Around 10am EST? |

(Awesome. Rather than previously having started in the morning, we're starting in the afternoon around 8pm or so. Everyone is gathered around a wooden table with Jasper and everyone's playing Blackjack. You don't need to know how to play because we won't be. It's just meant to break the ice. Also, put your character's first names at the start of your posts.)
Jasper -
All was quiet within the walls of the church as the first crickets could be heard chimming in, signaling the night was soon approaching. That was until Jasper tossed down his cards onto the old, creaky wooden table in exasperation, that is. The cards were old and flaying at the edges, but the numbers were still able to be read clearly; a seven of hearts, a Jack of spade, and a five of diamonds which added up to 22. "Dammit, Lady Luck was not with me this evening. I hardly even won a single hand," Jasper stated in a disappointed tone, however there was a slight grin present on his face, portraying that he had enjoyed the match and wasn't mad about his losses. |

(i vaguely remember what blackjack is. it's that game where u have to get close to 21 without going over?? asdfjksd
how to characterization)
Willow -
She was sitting on the floor onto her knee, leaning her arms against the tables with her elbows on her thighs. "Well," Willow murmured, only managing to hold her cards with both hands in a messy manner, "I still don't really get this game. I'm only getting tiny numbers." She somehow dropped her cards down with them landing on the table, revealing a two of clubs, a three of hearts, and a four of hearts: all amounting to 9. She could only vaguely numbers, and wasn't that great with adding in general. |

Heinrich-
Heinrich sat on the filthy wooden stool just by the table, with his legs outstretched awkwardly forward, with his left leg bent with it's foot leaning on his knee at an odd angle. He added up the numbers on his cards, hitting a ridiculous six with a two of every suit, with the exception of hearts. He tossed the cards onto the table like everyone else seemed to be doing, and made a less-than silent snort of a laugh to himself. He then silently folded his hands on the table and leaned on them lazily. |

Gered-
"Come on, Lady Luck isn't a kind lover you know." Gered laughs, as he looks through his cards...A seven of clubs, A six of hearts, a four of diamonds, a three of diamonds, and a ace of hearts.
"I take it I won the hand?" |

Jasper -
"Please, she favors people, judging by your hand. You won," Jasper responded to Gered, chuckling himself. "Anyway, I wanted to tell you guys that we'll all be heading into the city tomorrow. I don't like it myself one bit, but we haven't checked there in about a year so it's necessary that we do every now and then at least. I'll be coming with you three. We're just gonna check out what's going on, that's it really. I don't want anyone dying after all," Jasper stated in an even tone as he described the what the scouting party was supposed to do. "You guys have anything else you want to know that I might have not mentioned?" Jasper followed up, wanting to make sure everyone was clear with what was going on. |

"Just us four?" Heinrich asks inquisitively, swapping from his folded hands position to one hand on the table and the other mounted on it's elbow and holding up his head from the chin. |

"Can't spare anymore. Laurie's got three in the sick bay who have come down with something vicious and Casey is tied up with other things. So yeah, it'll just be us four. We'll be fine though. Heinrich is a great shot, Gered will get us into any lock, and I'm sure Willow has a few aces up her sleeve," Jasper replied, hinting on everyone's skills. |

Gered-
"Seems solid... But how long will we be there? I doubt there is enough supplies scattered around it to keep us suited long. That, and I really don't feel like getting shot will improve my chances of living till my hair grows gray." Gered asks, throwing it out there.
"Though it would be nice... The old lock for the shed is so rusted, I fear I will have to break it off someday just to open it. Might even be able to gather enough locks and chains to lock down a couple nearby buildings. And you remember that old radio we can't get working? Might well be worth a shot to get it backup. I'm in, Jasper." Gered says, standing up to stretch a little. |
