That's the question a lot of people on this forum have been asking, and I think the answer to that is unclear to a lot of people. I'm going to explain, to the best of my understanding, why the events are now structured in this manner. Hopefully this will help you understand the reasoning behind these events if you're still confused.
First, developer-made events. Why aren't the ROBLOX staff making events?
1. They give ROBLOX staff more time to work on new features
There's a lot of new ROBLOX features that are coming out as of late. Smooth Terrain. Custom Particles. The new-and-improved physics engine coming soon. If they had to focus on creating their own events on top of all that, such features would likely be much slower to get released. Having developers run the event games is a more efficient process.
2. The events are not targeted towards you (the forumers)
Here's the truth: the forumers are a very vocal minority in this enormous ROBLOX community. ROBLOX has to target the majority. Most of the actual players of the games enjoy the developer-created events. This is evident by the large spike in players whenever a developer event begins, and more importantly, the increased earnings for the games in the events. (People wouldn't spend extra money on a game they disliked, so it's clear they enjoy it!)
ROBLOX certainly uses statistics to determine how effective these events are. If they weren't effective, then they would stop running the events in this structure.
Second, sponsored events. This is probably where the most confusion lies. Why all the sponsored events?
1. ROBLOX does not pick out the sponsors; the sponsors contact ROBLOX first
I've seen a lot of people say "ROBLOX is sponsoring X company!" or "ROBLOX keeps picking all these sponsors!" Those statements are incorrect; it's the other way around. Since ROBLOX's playerbase is growing immensely, it's becoming a more lucrative place for sponsors to advertise their material, compared to a year or two ago.
2. Generally, the sponsors pick the games, not ROBLOX
This is in response to the "ROBLOX keeps picking the same games!" criticism; ROBLOX doesn't pick them. The sponsors just want to pick the games which they feel would be most fitting for the event, both in terms of popularity and the feel of the game. They tend to favor the more social/lighthearted games over more violent ones, as their advertisements will leave a better impression on players.
3. Sponsor events provide ROBLOX with more money to cover expenses
Believe it or not, but with all the expenses like server costs, DevEx payouts, and staff payments, ROBLOX operates at around break-even. This means that at the end of the day, the company actually makes little to no profit, since they have to spend as much as they make. Sponsor events are not ROBLOX being "greedy" - the money allows them to do things like hire new staff and upgrade their server infrastructure for the benefit of all of us.
Obviously, my personal opinion on these events would be biased. I've made sure to only include facts/analysis in this post.
[TL;DR] - The staff has more time to create new features for ROBLOX - ROBLOX is targeting the majority of players who enjoy this event structure - ROBLOX doesn't pick out the sponsors; the sponsors come to ROBLOX - The sponsors pick the games which they find most fitting for the events, not ROBLOX - Sponsor events provide ROBLOX with more money to cover various expenses (server costs, staff, etc.)
Even if you still despise these sorts of events (which is totally fine, not everyone will like them), hopefully you can now understand why they take place. Discuss below! |

@Emblazing
As I said in the post, ROBLOX operates at around break-even. This means that the company doesn't actually make any profit, because their expenses are equal to the amount of revenue they make.
More money actually allows them to hire more staff and create/improve features that will help ROBLOX as a whole. |

well instead of money, like i said, they should care about actually making it entertaining that's a really important point that roblox is missing out on for example, in the 2014 summer games, it was actually pretty entertaining, but this year's summer games literally took me 1 minute to complete and was really boring. |

Is money is really such a problem for roblox, roblox should become pay-to-play.

| I think ROBLOX should stop targeting itself towards kids. With all the scammers and baiters on the Front Page nowadays, the KIDS are going to learn how to scam instead of building a legitimate game, unlike the smart portion of our community. |

@Emblazing
I certainly think it would be cool to have some more uniquely-styled events.
The issue with Summer Games 2014 was that it resulted in unhealthy levels of competition to earn the hats (staying up all night long just to be at the top of the leaderboard) and they probably want to satisfy as many players as possible. |

| If ROBLOX would start targeting Teenagers again, not only would the Community improve, (In terms of General IQ) but it would DESTROY Scam Games since 13+ Kids would probably be smart enough to know that these types of games are scams and that there's no reason to fall for them. |
