We now officially know what it looks like. And we will have more information on it once the rest of the data is beamed in. Cool rite?

I'm not exactly sure what the rest of the data is, but I think it does include some information on the moons and the composition of the atmosphere.

why are we taking pictures of Pluto I mean I get the whole science thing but haven't we already established that it's pretty much uninhabitable at its current temperature plus the seasons, if it has any, would be long as all hell with the complete revolution time being somewhere around 900 years

It's not just pictures. New Horizons is equipped with all sorts of different sensors so it can gather data. Gathering info on Pluto could give us some insight as to how the solar system was formed (since it's in the Kuiper Belt)

@mikey
Not all space missions are about inhabiting worlds. The data we receive is ground breaking, a monumental success in the history of mankind so if we fall, we do not fall in vain. |

@mad
what good is our history if no one ever stops by to pick it up because aliens probably aren't planning on visiting us if they even know we exist

There's where hope comes in. It's a unanimous concept amongst humanity to hope for the future. Remembering the past is what keeps us going ahead, to strive greater than what we left. |

I think they are launching an orbital mission in 2020 or so. It will orbit Jupiter but it will also come in close range with Europa, allowing us to observe it's icy surface. Let's hope we find alien fish.
