Literacy is just learning the language. It has practically NOTHING to do with mathematics, science, politics, or economics. In Africa, someone who's illiterate can still understand economics and know how to live their life. You don't need to read Shakespeare to know how to find the circumference of a circle or fathom a situation.
That's why the majors in English and literature are practically useless and worthless, unless you want to get paid to read things.

someone who is illiterate cannot read i'm pretty sure an illiterate person can speak and understand a language though, they just can't read and write any of them |
