"does playing punch out on the NES count"
haha but in all seriousness i think everyone should learn to fight whether it's learning martial arts or participating in regular street fights hand to hand combat is very useful to learn
i wouldn't think that most of ot knows how to fight since (no offense to anyone) ot sounds mostly like rich white kids who don't live in a dangerous area and don't have to defend themselves often |

I've fought a lot, though never seriously. My uncle, who's just a month older than me, and my friend would wrestle & fistfight eachother a lot, really rough, often getting lots of bruises.

"Does fencing count?"
i'd consider hand to hand more important but fencing does help your reflexes which could help in a regular street fight greatly

what do you mean seriously? like fighting without the intent to harm? and why would they do that, other than for fun? i fight a bit with my uncle who comes to visit, and we just play fight as in low-to-average strength punches and pushes
i learned to fight from my friends who regularly fight since there's a lot of fakes in our area who like to call us out they taught me how to swing correctly, block punches, strengthen my reflexes, etc. |

No, we wanted to harm, though we'd never get awfully rough. And there were limits, like no punching the face, groin, etc. But we fought until we bled, with, at least some intent to harm. But it was friendly. Yeah, we're idiots.
Also, I've fenced, and i can say that, A. it strengthens your muscles, and B. betters your reflexes. It has to do a lot with balance, coordination & speed, so we practiced a lot of that stuff.

"Unless you're carrying a rapier"
if someone were to come up to me with a rapier i'd probably grab it and knock it down like anyone else who doesn't do fencing tbh i'd consider hand to hand combat more important since you need nothing but your hands |

I don't really "fight," if it comes to violence I grab them and try put them in a hold they can't do anything in.
You're never too young to have a 'Nam flashback. |

"come up to me with a rapier i'd probably grab it and knock it down" I think you'd be surprised at how hard that'd be. Unless you're Jackie Chan, i don't think you could do it

it's a pretty weird way to learn but it helps you. also, that is why fencing is a good way to better your fighting skills overall. it's just that most wouldn't fight a street fight with a rapier, because the opponent probably wouldn't obey traditional fencing and would probably just punch you if you relied on that thing
"I don't really "fight," if it comes to violence I grab them and try put them in a hold they can't do anything in."
i'd prefer delivering a few punches to get my message through first; in my neighborhood, a simple hold may not be able to stop them |

| Yes, I fight with my dad a lot! We get in fist fights! We stop once we run out of breath (cuz u know grandpa! LOL) or when someone gets a cut! We always get bruises! But it is very fun! I always want to fight people! Besides my fatass cousin! |

"because the opponent probably wouldn't obey traditional fencing and would probably just punch you if you relied on that thing" I agree with you, most wouldn't, but at the same time, i'm not sure if the blade'd be an advantage or disadvantage.

i'd probably say no because most guys would ignore it and get rid of it, which would really need to be the time you swing with your hardest punches to the gut and such
"i guess im not an oter then"
my apologies friend, i realize not everyone is like that |
