canada's hockey team is split into two teams, eastern canada and western canada.
eastern canada consists of southwestern ontario (excluding ottawa), quebec, the maritimes, and nunavut. western canada is northern ontario including ottawa, manitoba, saskatchewan, alberta, BC, nw territories, and the yukon.
which team would be better (or would they be around even), and would them being split cause canadian hockey to become significantly weaker and struggle to compete against other contenders like the USA, russia, finland, sweden, etc., or would both teams still be ridiculously good and give canada a good shot at winning both the silver and gold?

i'd say the east would win. ontario has so many people they must get some right, quebec is die hard hockey, and the maritimes have some really good players. all west would really have is bc and ottawa, because you don't see many players outside of those areas that are really good. i'll just wait for someone to get the list of good players from alberta.

Why would you call Ottawa "Western Canada" when it's closer to Montreal and Toronto than Winnipeg?

@logaids http://www.hockey-reference.com/friv/birthplaces.cgi?country=CA&province=AB http://www.hockey-reference.com/friv/birthplaces.cgi?country=CA&province=BC&state= http://www.hockey-reference.com/friv/birthplaces.cgi?country=CA&province=MB&state http://www.hockey-reference.com/friv/birthplaces.cgi?country=CA&province=SK&state
i also checked and there's been 0 nunavut hockey players, 5 nw territories (none active), and two in the yukon with a stunning eight combined gp. that's right, a total eight! and a single point! #studs.

Best player for wedt: Probably Price
Best player for East: Crosby
I think this would give Canada a good shot at gold and silver |

@ban that's also U18, im talking about pro hockey. there's players who don't make the canada olympic team that would be on most other NTs.

half of team canada wouldn't beat usa, russia, sweden, or finland. one might win bronze.

western canada would have the better goalie, eastern canada the better skaters. both only by a slight margin IMO.
i think they'd both be very similar and still be very good contenders (albeit slightly weaker), i could see them finishing gold-silver but it wouldn't be easy.

east would have crosby, stamkos, tavares, carter, seguin, nash, doughty, dubban, pietrangelo, brodie, hamilton, ekblad, etc. and i only checked ontario & added crosby
goalies would be brian elliot & mike smith, downgrade from price but not by much and the guaranteed stacked skaters will help.

not really a huge downgrade, obviously price is on a level of his own atm but elliot is still mostly considered elite.
mike smith plays really well for being on the joke of a team (roster-wise last season, they will improve) called the coyotes. elliot is really good until the post-season because he's on the blues so he is cursed.
