consoles aren't pcs so why don't pcs just do whatever
how does a completely unrelated system hold back pcs
how does this work |

| because the games built to stress PCs also need to be optimized for consoles, so that prevents (i'd assume) higher poly counts / more CPU/GPU intensive processes unless the devs plan on building a whole new game for consoles and a second whole new game for PCs |

developers want parity across all systems because it helps drive the most sales
many mechanics, graphics and overall ideas have to be scaled back or cut out all together due to hardware limitations |

I heard stories about the deus ex team having to cut an entire level because the ps3 didn't have enough ram
pretty much the same thing here

why not just make the pc version as best as it can be, while making the console versions as best as they can be, how would that hurt sales?
people would still have to buy the version of the system they have |

| nothing about sales, but it would be a lot pricier to develop because they'd have to pay two dev teams |

oh so when content is exclusive to their systems it's fine
but when content is exclusive to pcs, the very concept of exclusive stuff is something Brosef Stalin apparently thought of
makes sense |

@Big
yeah it does because there is no owner of the pc platform.

wut
i just meant it would take more money to develop if you had a team making the PC port graphically outstanding, so no company really wants to make superior PC ports |

this too
"oh so when content is exclusive to their systems it's fine
but when content is exclusive to pcs,"
it's not just about content, i think sometimes it can involve game mechanics altogether and the scale of a game

so it's a no-win situation
if you keep consoles, pc gets held back
if they were to disappear, significant loses in video game sales
so now the anger towards consoles makes so much sense |

| many devs don't like making games for pcs, because of piracy issues, where they lose a lot of money when people do that, and dx11 is a bottleneck in which the api for ps4/xbox one is not. |

@fd,
The ballistic shield in Battlefield 4 was originally going to be one handed and allow you to hold a sidearm but the PS3 and Xbox 360 didn't have enough RAM so now we're stuck with the two handed, useless shield it is today. The thing can't even protect the user from a single grenade. |

"one handed and allow you to hold a sidearm"
What?
Uncharted allowed you to do this 4 years before Battlefield 4 came out, are you sure the devs of Battlefield 4 just aren't the worst at everything? |

if you really, really think about it then it's console devs and pcs which are holding back gaming, because in a perfect gaming world, only one gaming industry would exist, which would be able to produce super powerful consoles and sell it at very reduced prices because all games would only be on said console. you'd never need to upgrade because it'd be already good enough for everything and you'd never worry about not having exclusives because there'd be nothing else to put exclusives on
yeah, man |

@Bigtiop,
I'm not sure if it was the PS3's RAM limitations but I know it was the Xbox 360's. Uncharted isn't for 360 so maybe it really is hardware limitations
then again, this is DICE and EA so idk |

Yeah, I'm aware of that.
Does first-person view somehow make things more difficult to make? |

@Big Kind of,
means more resources on the ram, because the arm and gun textures have to be high res and the geometry has to be slightly higher poly because that's what the player is going to be looking at for a very very long time

| It doesn't really make sense to have a console first approach in my opinion. When you have a PC-first approach you can make a game that's really advanced and demanding and then scale it down to consoles if it's necessary. Look at Battlefield; its always held the PC platform as a priority but its enjoyable on both platforms. |
