[At the end there will be a solution, this is not an attack on you ROBLOX, this is rather explaining the problem and suggesting an alternative, so moderators please don't delete] ---------- Have you ever noticed how games that are parts of sponsored events are of poor quality or why many ROBLOX dev events suck? ---------- First let's teach you kids some economics. The free market. What is the free market? It's basically people selling and trading things to eachother with minimal regulations that make sure there is fair play. Always remember, High Supply + Low Demand = Low cost Low Supply + High Demand = high cost The prices on items are always decided in a free market (barring government regulations or taxes) based on what the consumer is willing to pay for it. Think of it this way, whenever people are trading, nobody is EVER willing to trade down. He will only trade something for something he perceives of higher value or of equal value. And since currency is just a median for trade, nobody ever buys something they don't think is worth it. (You may think something is too expensive, but since you *NEED* it, you are willing to pay more for it since you *NEED* it, it is seen as worth more to you) ---------- Okay, now that you understand the free market, let's use it as an analogy to ROBLOX. ROBLOX has a very diverse economy that you can apply the principles of a free market to. Think of your time as your money and places as something you are trading your time ("money") for. In order to get to the front page, you need to have dedication, hard work, smarts, scripting knowledge, building skills, and good marketing (advertising). Nobody is going to play ("spend their money on") a game where it isn't worth their time ("money"). The free market of games (generally) brings the best of the games onto the front page due to players playing games that they find enjoyable, thus they spend their time on it, and less time on games that are not enjoyable. Think of a game's enjoyableness as its "value". So in a normal world without ROBLOX sponsored events/dev events, only the best or rather games that are fun to a mass amount of people will be on the front page. Of course, their are exceptions because a free market does require some regulations to ensure fair play. You can't regulate all the games on ROBLOX to play fair. That is the sad reality, it is unpractical. Some games use false advertising and false iconography, but as cheating is prohibited in a free market, we will ignore this as outliers. ---------- Now what are exactly ROBLOX sponsored events/dev events in this? Well, to be honest, if ROBLOX didn't offer prizes for events nobody would play them. Let's face it, the prizes suck. ROBLOX doesn't need to make a place with high quality and a lot of time (when they could be coding the game to make it better, so I am not blaming them) to get a lot of players when they can just give away free stuff. So these games often end up being not so high quality. Think of the free stuff as government subsidies to failing businesses. ROBLOX is the "government". Plus ROBLOX isn't striving to make virtual currency off their places, whilst game makers are, so they have to make the best games they can to get players to join and get money since they don't have to luxury of giving away "free stuff" (free stuff as in hats/gear/catalog items) ---------- THE SOLUTION Now it would be just silly to attack a system without providing an alternative, as that is quite pointless. Now my solution is to hand over the sponsored events job to the ROBLOX game developers (the community). People wouldn't be pre-selected to build stuff. ROBLOX would host a contest, where any game dev can compete to make a game for the sponsored event or the developer event. Therefore they have to COMPETE to get their place to be chosen for the event (and get the profits from that place being in the event as an incentive). Remember, in the free market, competition is good. It brings out the best of the best and it lowers down prices, it's survival of the fittest really, except for businesses. But use that as an analogy to game devs. ROBLOX would then select the highest quality game either chosen by them or the community (up to them) to represent the event. |

| S&I is a wasteland that hasn't been relevant in at least a year. Moderators and admins do not read it anymore and the traffic there isn't as large as in here. |
