| Right now I'm using UserInputService to detect if the ESC button is pressed; very unreliable. |

You could actually try using gameProcessedEvent to detect when Escape is pressed.
I think gameProcessedEvent (2nd argument of UIS) is if the game 'processes' the event, like the chat.
Check if gameProcessedEvent is true when the user pressed Escape. |
