Well this certainly is interesting. A few weeks ago Evanescence announced they were back from their hiatus and will be performing at Ozzfest Japan. Yesterday, Disturbed announced they will be back and touring for their new album Immortalized. Their newest single "The Vengeful One" borrows a lot from Judas Priest. It also contains some industrial influence which is pretty common among Disturbed. It pretty much sounds like their older work but with some newer and more prominent influences in the song.
Nu-metal has been causing an uproar as of late. Linkin Park reverted back to their original sound in The Hunting Party. Although it wasn't well received, many view it as a turning point for the band. KoRn also incorporated some dubstep influence into nu-metal with their previous two albums. Less we forget Slipknots first single from "The Gray Chapter" sounds a lot like something from their debut album. Of Mice & Men also incorporated nu-metal into their newer work in their album "Restoring Force." Although it's not really clear nu-metal is coming back; it's not entirely out of the question. Do you guys think nu-metal should make a come back? Let me know in the comments! |

| Metal itself is making a comeback, Megadeth is releasing an album this year, along with Iron Maiden, Tool, and I am pretty sure Metallica and Dream Theater are releasing albums this year too, all styles of metal are coming back full force, and I am loving it. |

It'll be cool if a lot of old nu metal bands got together and make a concert called "Nu Metal aint Dead!"

meh, nu metal had a major slump in the late 00's but like other genres it doesn't completely disappear
similar to what happened to thrash, melodeath, etc
only problem is that there is very little variety in nu metal compared to the two genres i listed |

i think nu metal is making a comeback, but i'd like to see some bands like suicide silence and a few other bands like them release an album. also, cattle decapitation is releasing their new album in about a month. pretty hyped for that

">variety in thrash that is not prog-thrash or a fusion genre"
more than nu metal at least
like literally every nu metal song falls into the category of "rap metal with teen angst" (linkin park), "whispering into your ear with super downtuned guitars before breaking into a scream" (coal chamber), or "INDUSTRIAL WE'RE SO TOUGH HUH UH HUH" (static-x)
thrash isn't the most original genre but you have to consider that both death and black metal are offshoots of thrash |

oh yeah and OP forgot to mention that coal chamber also got back together and released an album recently
it's not particularly good, but it's a nu metal album in 2015. that says something. |

| I hope nu-metal makes a comeback. It will be very interesting to see how it levels the music field. |

oh plz
metal never died
a lot of elitists argue that the early 2000's were a dark time but even then there were still a lot of genuinely great albums coming out from bands like kamelot, agalloch, dark tranquility, children of bodom, and many other bands |

| I don't think the early 2000's was generally bad for music. A lot of decent bands, at least in my opinion, emerged pretty well. I thought KoRn's album "Untouchables" was pretty good. Not to mention Disturbed infamous album "The Sickness" was pretty great. A majority of Slipknot's albums came out, as well. The only rock sub-genre that took a decline was Alternative which lead to it's reinvention in 2011. Not to mention nu-metal's decline in 2008 but that wasn't really major. Nu-metal is a simple transition because you can basically shift to either alternative, alternative metal or industrial. Metalcore seems to be taking a much needed decline. It's severely overcrowded and needs time to resonate. |

"Not to mention Disturbed infamous album "The Sickness" was pretty great."
i'm a disturbed fan and imo the sickness is by far the worst disturbed album. it's a nuh muh nuh fest with poor writing and nonstop nu metal tripes except even more poorly done. believe was like a 10x better album.

iowa was pretty legit i agree
"Not to mention nu-metal's decline in 2008 but that wasn't really major."
nu metal was single handedly killed by killswitch engage's 'alive or just breathing' in 2002. nu metal pretty much was 1998-2002. after that all the bands swapped to alt metal, industrial metal, or alt rock wtf you talkin about in 2008
"Metalcore seems to be taking a much needed decline. It's severely overcrowded and needs time to resonate."
metalcore is more popular than ever before because of the whiny scene kid audience. in my eyes it died in 2007 (after all that remains released 'the fall of ideals', the absolute peak of metalcore) |
