| Honestly, it was a great idea, it changed history. I live in Richmond (Virginia), it's just apart of history. Accept it. |

comparing a 3rd Reich flag which represented dictatorship to a battle flag that represented states rights is probably the most idiotic thing you can do
one was used by a government the other was used by the soldiers |

@sergent
i knew one of those was coming.
i'm not comparing what they represent, i'm comparing that, after their generally bad reputation they should only be as what they are, representant of history and not put in government buildings.

| When I look at the flag I see freedom, Not slavery. They rebelled because of differences, most of us would have done the same. |

| The Confederate flag wasn't even the flag of the south. Just the South's military |

If you mean you support it being flown over a government building, then you are wrong. It has to do with state governments who give representation in the public to a symbol of slavery and racism. One can say that the flag represents heritage...but that heritage is of hundreds of years of slavery and racism, so why are we splitting hairs? The confederate flag being flown over government buildings is similar in the reasoning as to why government does not endorse specific religions, because if they do they must give the same endorsement to all religions. We can see examples around the nation as to why this is a bad idea. The Temple of Satan, in Missouri, has been giving the public a wet slap in the face to the reality of equal representation. The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster also comes to mind. For the system to be truly fair, southern state governments must give equal space to every flag and those who wish to see it flown. Since they are unwilling to do that, it exposes their hypocrisy.

nzi flag = flag of dictatorship that killed over 40 million people due to wars
confederate flag = flag created for battle since the stars and bars looked too similar to the US flag and resulted in poor communication and friendly fire. over 45,000 blacks went into war with that flag, so I fail to see your point.
If govt buildings flew the actual stars and bars, then yeah I'd have no problem. But this is a classic example of first amendment rights because people were upset about one event.
that's how america works. some place gets shot up, and everyone believes trashing rights for these "special cases" will resolve and prevent the issue from happening. it has yet to work so far.
my rights > your feelings, and i have a right to fly a confederate flag. don't like it? go to a country with mandatory flag appreciation and strict respect laws, like North Korea. |
