Well, instead of rebuilding the whole system, my suggestion for you would be to put a better graphics card in it, and pop in 4 more GBS of RAM into that dinosaur and put Windows 7 64 bit on it. |

Oh and upgrade that CPU of yours to this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMD-Phenom-II-X4-940-B-E-HDZ940XCJ4DGI-3-0-GHz-quad-core-socket-AM2-CPU-125W-/281728241679?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item41984fd00f
That is a hell of a deal for a microprocessor of that specs. |

Mate, if you get that processor you would need to buy a new motherboard that supports it. Also, why the hell would you buy an i7 when a Xeon is cheaper and offers the same performance? Hell that is what I am doing with my rig. I am upgrading to a Xeon. |

also, thats a pretty bad processor. you might want to invest in a amd fx-8350 because you already have a motherboard compatible with it. keep in mind the fx-8350 runs hot so you might want to swap out for an intel motherboard and processor but that will probably cost around $300 if you're getting an i3 or i5. the fx-8350 is a good processor and im using it right now.
if you're getting a new graphics card, you might want to get a radeon r9 270 or 280, those are good budget ones, and im running a radeon r9 280 right now. |

| I have had no good experience with AMD CPUs. I don't know how the newer ones preform but my system is rocking an Intel Pentium G3258(Xeon is coming this week) and it has preformed outstanding compared to the older AMD processor I had in my previous build. |

@Cons RAIDMAX power supply? Are you asking for a death wish or something? You know someone's RAIDMAX PSU blew up and majorly damaged the person, right? Also, a Pentium G3258 + 12GB RAM + 800W PSU? Major bottleneck. |

@Vineshroom
I am aware of the mistake I made by buying this Raidmax power supply. But it is sufficient for now. Also, I bought an 800W power supply because this is a Workstation and not a Gaming PC primarily. I do work that is highly CPU intensive not GPU intensive and if I choose to upgrade the GPU in the future as well I am going to need the more power. |

"But it is sufficient for now." NO IT IS NOT. It is going to blow up soon. Raidmax is considered one of the absolute worst PSU brands to exist. |

what is the problem with the MSI-970 gaming? it was an affordable mobo that came with some extra features like sound blaster and networking things, and ever since i built the PC 6 months ago, it has been running like a dream :)
