@Hare
Yes, and it drove down wages as more and more of them moved here. This was before we gave out welfare en masse to the lower classes - as more people enter this country, more people sign up for welfare and we're going broke paying for it |

You are making assumptions, there are many market imperfections to prevent wages falling below a certain point - trade unions, minimum wage etc. Migrant workers tend (a majority) to be the ones doing low skilled work where workers will be on minimum wage too.
When looking at wages we tend to look at real wages, the change in wage proportional to inflation. So it's also important to consider inflation as this is the actual effect it will have on a workers spendign power, immigration and job creation will likely result in demand-pull inflation, so in that minimum wage will depress real wages for sure. There is little evidence of that at the moment, in fact the government is trying to increase consumption. If we have cost-push inflation on the other hand, spare capacity is low, then an influx of migrant workers can actually ease of that pressure. This may lower wages but if inflation is decreased there could in fact be a rise in real wages. |

Inflation hasn't decreased substantially since the Federal Reserve was founded.
I think it's safe to assume that the dollar will always slowly lose value over time, so jobs lowering their wages aren't due to dollars being worth more, but that immigrants are willing to accept less (and/or get on welfare). |

Giving out welfare is not what is depressing wages anyway, did you even read the video? Giving out welfare actually decreases the incentive to work as people have a lower cost of leisure - what is depressing wages is the influx of workers, according to that video.
Immigrants actually have a greater net output than the average non-immigrant too. So their contribution towards the economy exceeds that that is signed up for on welfare.
'immigrants’ share of total output was about 14.7 percent over 2009–2011. Note that this is actually larger than immigrants’ 13 percent share of the population.' - Economic Policy Institute. |

You are all freaking idiots. The point of the video has barely anything to do with the US. If you people WATCHED IT, you'd understand what it is trying to convey.

The video deconstructs the argument that immigration lowers poverty. Giving welfare to the immigrants moving to rich countries shows that while more poor people will be born in poor countries, the rich countries will have less money as more and more people go on the dole. |

That's not what I said, inflation does not have an impact on wages, rather inflation has an impact upon what a wage is worth. High inflation will not mean companies lower their wages, if anything it would actually mean the opposite. But yeah that's not what I'm saying, I'm saying inflation is important when looking at the value of the wage, people look at real wages, rather than wages as a way of looking at how living standards, economic growth etc. is affected. |

I know that, this guy is talking about the US so I gave him that statistic to show that immigration has a positive net contribution, which is not what he said.
Actually most countries, European countries have the exact same trend. I know that video is not based upon the US though. |

Partially correct. The essence of the video is that we are not helping any one by taking immigrants as the immigrants we do take are not those under extreme poverty. The ones we take are well educated and bring skills with them that are beneficial to the United States. These immigrants could help benefit their countries back home instead of the US.
In school ( in canada ), we were able to study Canada's immigration policies and I got to see that the majority of Canadian immigrants are actually very capable people. The poverty that comes from these immigrants is due to the fact that at time there is just too much competition in these jobs at those areas so the immigrants have to work at mac donalds and what not. That of course is irrelevant, the point is, we really are not lifting any weight over poor countries what so ever, |
