@han what is the most applicable for building a game? If I stick to one I'll eventually branch out and learn other ones.

Do you mean building a game on ROBLOX or just game design in general?
ROBLOX uses RBXLua, a slightly modified version of the Lua coding language. For general game development (i.e. Unity), you would want to know C# and JavaScript. |

A roblox game to start. Would that be easier than anything else?

| Yes - the ROBLOX game development platform is a great starting place. And Lua is a lot easier to learn than C#. |

The scripting book will tell you just about everything you need to know to script RBX.Lua.
If there's anything else that you want to know search it up on the wiki or ask on the Scripters forum.

Creating a game from scratch in Java isn't nearly as easy as building a game in a game engine like ROBLOX.

Like HanSolo mentioned, ROBLOX games use the programming language RBXLua, which is like a slightly modified version of Lua. It has pre-built libraries, functions, and variables to use which makes things easy. Obviously Java does too, and you can import but with RBXLua everything's already there, and ready to go. Like in Java you'd be creating the window, and adding elements to it which is a semi-long process, but in RBXLua it's just part = Instance.new("Part",workspace) -- creates a part, in Workspace

It's super-easy to get confused and frustrated when you're just starting.
See if you can find a tutorial on YouTube to create something simple, like a lava brick or a VIP door. Small steps and accomplished projects help with confidence and understanding. Experience will help you more than just reading about it. |
