"...doesn't happen in other countries"
Maybe it's because we have 300 million+ people living here, and maybe it's because our social situation is far different from most other countries
The "person" who did the shootings in SC did not get the gun legally, and if he tried, he couldn't, since he had a criminal history.
He got the gun from his dad, and his dad should be charged. |

| I live in SC, and a church in my area had to be evacuated because of a bomb threat. There's a lot of crazy loons down here. |

Obama will blame it on "bad gun laws," not the suspected fellow.

See, this is precisely the problem. If we allow guns to be legally purchased in the US, it allows for things like this to actually happen. Remember, you can't really trust anybody because anything can happen.

If we ban guns, they'll use knives. If we ban knives, they'll use pillows. The problem is that there are psychopaths in our communities that will go to great lengths to kill someone.
And, should we all live in isolation and never speak to another soul because they could potentially kill us in our sleep? If we can't trust anyone, then we shouldn't be allowed to live within the same four walls as another human being. |

If we allow baseball bats to be legally purchased in the US, people will be beaten to death and property will be damaged. If we said thing like this for every product, we would have no products.
Taking guns off the street may have postponed those killings, but it wouldn't have stopped them. |

All those other "weapons" have actual uses... guns don't other than to kill people, so why should we just allow another weapon to be used like we don't even care? Also, I'm not saying that everyone is a psycho, I'm just saying that the government shouldn't allow guns to the masses because there will always be some psychos, but not everybody.

| there are other countries with higher death rates from firearms than the US. getting rid of them isn't the problem either, because people still have them illegally... |

"guns don't other than to kill people"
I'm sure that's all they're used for.
Regardless, when America took out booze, the mafia took it over.
When America took out drugs, the gangs took it over.
Guns will have the same effect. Only that these 'psychopaths' will be the only ones who have them. |

You seem to be sarcastically implying that they actually have another use.

Actually if we ban guns we get less residential shootings like this but way more public shootings because idiots will know that no one has a gun and they can go to some area and shoot eveeryone. It's not the guns we need to ban. We need to fix the behavior of deadbeat parents who do not know how to raise their kids correctly.

I'm talking about handguns... you can't just hunt with a handgun
as for gun competitions I suppose the same could apply.

Yes shooting down animals for fun is very fun. Honestly, shooting animals should only be done when you need food. Guns will be around and shootings will happen whether there are or aren't guns. There is no good side.

Laws on firearms can't be applied for all countries. It's not a one-size-fits-all kind of deal. Imagine if the U.S. was like Switzerland: Every man must join the Army at the age of 18 and be in it for 4 years, receiving a gun and knowing how to use it. It works GREAT for the Swiss, crime rates are seriously low, but could you imagine the uproar of a policy like that in the U.S.?
Still, he's got a point to blame these acts of violence on faulty legislation. Obviously with this kind of crime, we haven't found our fit on gun legislation in this country, and should really try working to fix it instead of listening to the NRA, which is more about bullets and money than the safety of the people. |

Which happen to be the guns that you have to be 21 to buy, and in most areas, you have to have a permit to carry.
Enforce the small crimes and the big ones will decrease. |

Sure sure, but we still need guns for families, even if they're civilian.
You can give it to whom you trust.
Also illegalizing them won't help, they can still make them or store them.

criminals are criminals. think of it like drugs: they're illegal, but the criminals FIND A WAY TO GET IT
so by making the purchase of guns illegal, you're just taking guns away from the people who use it for self defense against criminals, and the criminals will find a way to get them anyways. they always have
