i write off every new band since 2006 (the fall of ideals being the peak) as terrible other than bring me the horizon, the agonist (which later became melodeath), and sonic syndicate (which started as melodeath). maybe also attila, but that's mostly because rage is the ultimate "speeding down the interstate 5 in a convertible" album.
any other good albums? i don't want any of that crabcore, easycore, any of that crap. i don't want https://youtu.be/eBnqYlysXxU or https://youtu.be/5pR-voFbxzo and don't even get me started on bands inspired by attack attack
remember, i'm a big melodeath fan, which is why i like oldschool melodic metalcore so much (it started as an offshoot of melodeath). i don't like fake growls, terrible breakdowns which make no sense (my biggest problem with modern metalcore), or just breakdowns in general unless they are very very well executed. no cringeworthy clean vocals either.
i like bring me the horizon because they don't have any of that stuff and they really have a top-notch sound. you can feel their ambition in all their albums, and while they didn't deliver on that in their first two albums, their later two definitely fit. the two latest albums feel more like being metalcore because that's what it's classified as, not aiming to be metalcore (unlike suicide season).
and then the agonist and sonic syndicate should be obvious as to why i like them, the metalcore-melodeath merge has always been pretty decent (can't think of any bad bands), stuff like heaven shall burn, darkest hour, and the two i mentioned are really nice
so any good modern metalcore bands that aren't melodramatic, cheesy, generic, or just flat out bad? none of this: https://youtu.be/KDzt6yI3Dw8 and more of this: https://youtu.be/XRrzXYpDBYo |

| City of Evil was pretty metalcore, and that was a good album. The Devil Wears Prada are a pretty good metalcore band. Asking Alexandria is decent, I guess. |

only had a chance to listen to august burns red so far, will be listening to much more right now
but so far ABR are good. feels like a heavier and crunchier version of howard-era killswitch engage. the chugging/breakdowns don't bother me because not only can you hear some of the melodeath influences but the breakdowns themselves are very well done. they're a lot more flavorful, a bit less 0-0-0-0-0-0. there's a lot less empty room in the breakdowns and they overall are far more complex and unconventional. reminds me of the agonist a bit, similar off-meter breakdowns. the vocals are definitely harsh but it's not trying to be lelelelelele death metal, there's a distinctive style and if he wants to go death he has a pretty good guttural.
gonna check out parkway drive next probably since the two are known for being so similar |

@schrai how about die @op you maaaaaaay not like the other three i suggested much cus they're breakdown-heavy TDWP are my fave band but there are breakdowns and synth a lot their new stuff is dj0nty tho exotype are very chuggy but also very synth-heavy so if you like that maybe northlane is overall very technical for metalcore but there are breakdowns, chugs are ridiculously heavy tho

parkway drive is good so far (listening to horizons)
you expect something a lot more melancholic from their album covers but suddenly you have this really good death growl mixed with bfmv/atreyu/trivium style riffs and brutal breakdowns
breakdowns not as good as august burns red but vocals are better |
