THAILAND 1-0 Vietnam
---
REMINDER OF MY PREDICTIONS:
GROUP A: Pretty favorable for the United Arab Emirates, who finished 3rd at this past Asian Cup in Australia. They should make it out without a problem imo. A weaker Saudi Arabia squad got spared by drawing Palestine, Malaysia, and East Timor, so the third round of World Cup qualification could be likely if they keep their GD high.
1. United Arab Emirates (ADVANCE TO 3RD ROUND) 2. Saudi Arabia (POSSIBLE ADVANCE TO 3RD ROUND) 3. Palestine 4. Timor-Leste 5. Malaysia
--- GROUP B: If Australia doesn't get through from this group, that would be an utter embarrassment. A weaker Arab side (Jordan), two former Soviet "stans" (Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan), and Bangladesh - probably South Asia's worst side in this round are the Socceroos' opponents for the next 2 years. I also do not think Jordan will produce enough firepower to get out of this group. Look for Kyrgyzstan to finish 3rd in the group and Bangladesh to be kicked around.
1. Australia (ADVANCE TO 3RD ROUND) 2. Jordan 3. Kyrgyzstan 4. Tajikistan 5. Bangladesh
--- GROUP C: Possibly one of the most wide-open groups in the campaign, China look to be the obvious favorites to top the group followed by future World Cup hosts Qatar. While Qatar had a dismal Asian Cup campaign, I think they will find their rhythm and advance to the ultimate round of World Cup qualification in second place. The former world's worst team may not finish dead last here, as Bhutan's exciting attack could propel them to third ahead of the Maldives and Hong Kong, who (shockingly) skipped the first round of qualification.
1. China (ADVANCE TO 3RD ROUND) 2. Qatar (POSSIBLE ADVANCE TO 3RD ROUND) 3. Bhutan 4. Maldives 5. Hong Kong
--- GROUP D: Iran failing to advance to the next round out of this group would be pure humiliation and Carlos Queiroz may never get another job again. Iran faces familiar foes Turkmenistan, who are the only Asian team to never have lost to Iran and is the homeland of Iran striker Sardar Azmoun's parents, as well as Oman who have defeated Iran 3-1 two years ago, and Guam - who Iran have beaten 19-0 in 2002. New manager Stephen Constantine's India may actually create a shock at the expense of Oman, who have been in poor form as of late, but lack of attack may not propel them to the next round. And of course, poor, poor Guam...
1. Iran (ADVANCE TO 3RD ROUND) 2. India 3. Oman 4. Turkmenistan 5. Guam
--- GROUP E: Japan should cruise through this group with no excusable problem at all. Vahid Halilhodzic's Samurai Blue should go through with wins in every single match. Second place is up for grabs in this group, but Syria - who has had winning form in 2015 - should take second, followed by Afghanistan - who has some promise for the future. Singapore should knock out Cambodia for 4th in this group. This group is probably one of the most boring of them all, and Keisuke Honda doesn't have any excuses not to finish as the top goalscorer of this round...if he's even played.
1. Japan (ADVANCE TO 3RD ROUND) 2. Syria 3. Afghanistan 4. Singapore 5. Cambodia
--- GROUP F: This, and MAYBE Group H are the only two groups where the expected leader may not come out on top, but still could advance to the next round. Fourth-placed Iraq at the Asian Cup will attempt to have success in this group, but may have to shake off a rather decent Thai side for 1st in the group. Thailand have had winning form in Asia and lost 3-2 to Cameroon in a friendly recently. Indonesia may actually finish 3rd in the group, pushing the Vietnamese down to a disappointing 4th. Who even plays for Chinese Taipei?
1. Iraq (ADVANCE TO 3RD ROUND) 2. Thailand (POSSIBLE ADVANCE TO 3RD ROUND) 3. Indonesia 4. Vietnam 5. Chinese Taipei
--- GROUP G: South Korea, led by Uli Stielke and Ki Sung-yueng, should cruise through another rather easy group. No one in this group should pose any threat the Koreans, but Lebanon and Kuwait will battle it out for 2nd in the group - which could go to Lebanon, but will most likely go to Kuwait, who will most likely pick up enough goals to move on to the next round. Myanmar should beat out Laos for 4th in this group.
1. South Korea (ADVANCE TO 3RD ROUND) 2. Kuwait (POSSIBLE ADVANCE TO 3RD ROUND) 3. Lebanon 4. Myanmar 5. Laos
--- GROUP H: This group is the Group of Death, and major (stuff) could go down here. A rather old, but good Uzbek side faces Bahrain, on the decent side as of late, and 2010 World Cup participants North Korea. Philippines are even a decent side of their own actually, and could hold their own. If Yemen can get together despite current hardships, they could even produce some fight out of them as well. This group is not easy for anyone, but Uzbek experience will propel them out of the group, followed by Bahrain - who will not be able to produce many goals from this Group of Death to move on.
1. Uzbekistan (ADVANCE TO 3RD ROUND) 2. Bahrain 3. North Korea 4. Philippines 5. Yemen |

| I think people are really counting them out too easily. They're in a VERY do-able group to move on to the next round of Asian Cup qualification, and all they're going to need are wins against the Maldives and Hong Kong, which I can definitely see happening. |

| Yep. If I'm not mistaken, when determining second place movers, the matches against the worst team in the group will be thrown out |

If World Cup qualification ended today, Australia, Iran, and Japan would be eliminated from the World Cup.
South Korea leads their qualification group though. |
