Text > Voiced
Text allows for more dialogue and more options because you don't have to waste time and money recording it all. |

omg this is the dumbest argument I've ever seen
if you think text is good then why don't you go play E.Y.E Divine cybermancy and come back?

No voices allows for
1: More dialogue overall 2: The player to decide how their character and the NPCs would sound as they read the text in their head/aloud 3: More dialogue change (e.g fallout 2 and low intelligence characters) 4: More money and time to put into the actual game. |

@Hell
by the same nonsense logic you could also say
having no animations allows for
1.less glitches 2.more comedic relief 3.more money and time to put in the actual game --CG artist of VGF-- |

I didn't like femshep's voice though, she just didn't fit what my character looked like.
Female Shepard has the voice of a white woman, what if you make your shepard black? |

| Livewire, bastion's voice comes from a narrator right? I'm talking about RPGs where dialogue trees are a big part of the game, not games where you don't take part in conversations. |

because given the costs involved in making AAA games, VA's reading a few more lines is pretty minor

I guess not every white woman sounds like taylor swift then
Still, if I make my shepard african, where's my africano accento?
No voices allows me to simply imagine their voice. |

Lord, It's pretty minor but it's a massive deal of time and restricts the amount of dialogue in the game.
Also you have to find good voice actors and not just use random people from around the office like bethesda does. |

by this logic, no animation means we get to imagine how they move too
so still pictures > animation
hey, maybe we should just abandon voice acting, animation and all that
and just go back to CYOA books instead of games

Yeah because I totally said games should never have voices.
I simply said they shouldn't be a requirement, especially in RPGs. |

KotOR is a game that blended voices and no-voices well
About half the dialogue is voiced, the other half is not-voiced or just in alien gibberish.
It has a lot of conversation options too because of their freedom to write a lot. |

They're not.
In those Bethesda RPGs you love to hate, the protagonist doesn't speak.
Happy? |

"Why are voiced characters a must have for AAA games now?"
literally there in the title
or the OP:
"Text > Voiced
Text allows for more dialogue and more options because you don't have to waste time and money recording it all."
There is literally no mention of RPG's, only "AAA games" which, you may be surprised to note, includes a lot of games beside RPG's.
