Kids aren't smarter; it's just they have easier access to the answers.

"Kids aren't smarter; it's just they have easier access to the answers." No, with new technology there are more things children can learn these days, expanding the world of learning and teaching alike.
Kids know more these days because they can learn more.

"having knowledge = being smarter."
Yes, but they don't have the knowledge. They just look it up every time they need to know the answer. That does not mean they have any understanding of it.
"since we have easier access to information we are smarter."
A kid who can figure out a 15% tip on his phone is not smarter than someone who can do it in their head. The point being that a large amount of kids require that access to information to do any basic task. Where people who grew up without that easy access were required to learn it.

@Colone
do you...honestly think they let kids check their phones when taking the intelligence exams? Seriously?
In many ways kids are getting smarter. Always have been, really. Less focused? Certainly. But smarter all-around. |

"do you...honestly think they let kids check their phones when taking the intelligence exams?"
Of course not, but do the intelligence exams measure actual intelligence?
No, they measure a set standard.
Measurement on paper means absolutely nothing. To judge the intelligence of a generation, you must look at how that generation is doing. Are the newer generations any more successful than the older ones?
That answer is no. The ones who are successful are very successful and the majority who are not; are not.
Look at it this way. If you were an employer, would you hire the nineteen year old straight A student, or the thirty-five year old with a reliable record? I know I would choose the thirty-five year old because I know the thirty-five year old is probably competent enough to handle whatever job I decide to give him. The only reason I would hire the nineteen year old is because I know I could probably pay him very little and get away with it. |

So you're saying a caveman who is successful at making fire is more intelligent than a modern day child who unsuccessfully, but almost, made a basic robot with simple instructions?

Even if we do have more access to information, it doesn't mean we don't have stupid people.
