I have a box. There is an apple in it. I remove the apple. Is there now nothing in the box?
No, there's still air in the box. We can remove the air making it a vacuum. IS there now in the box?
No, there's still virtual particles. These are particles that pop in and out of existence even in an empty vacuum. Let's say, we could clear this as well, which might be physically possible. Would you then say there's nothing in the box?
No, you still have spacetime itself in the box. Spacetime is a physical object that can be bent and distorted. Can you remove spacetime? We know the Big Bang was the origin of spacetime, so maybe before the Big Bang, is that when there was nothing?
No, because there's no such thing as "before spacetime" because there's no such thing as "before time". You need time to have a "before", so there can't be a before time. The Big Bang was the beginning of time, so there's nothing before it.
Essentially, true "nothingness" does not exist and has never existed within our universe. There has always been something. |

I've always thought of what was before the creation of the universe, it's extremely confusing because our brains don't have the capacity to understand.

zero = absence of anything = nothing
if I'm not mistaken, nothing exists mathematically |

@Sam
But there isn't a "before" the Big Bang because the Big Bang was the beginning of spacetime. For there to be a "before" there has to be time before the Big Bang, and there wasn't.
@Soaryn
Nothing exists conceptually, yes, but not in the actual universe. We can imagine nothing, but that doesn't mean there actually exists nothing. |

you do have a good point though i mean ive thought about this plenty of time but never thrown too much thought into it seeing as i knew i would just keep asking questions
thats a problem i have; i need to understand everything to the base of where it started and thats why i generally dont ask questions
but seriously good job on this analysis my friend |

Congratulations! You've shown intellect! That means you're going to be something great in life...but that kinda stuff isn't allowed on these forums so *ban* Jk
But seriously, I like how you're on the right path to transcending the bonds of humanity. That's the only way we'll ever learn anything new. I mean, we could say your box is blue, but that's that not a universal characteristic; it is, however, universally applicable in saying that your box reflects a 450nm wavelength of light. It isn't applicable to use that specific Earthly measurement, but it's a measurement nonetheless, so it could theoretically be converted universally. So, despite there being nothing perceptible in your box, there's always something there. You know how they say "nothing can come from nothing?" Well that's true...until you're dealing with infinity. I don't mean the representation, I mean true, unbridled infinity. Anything's possible in such a ubiquitous (first time using that word...looks good) expanse of sheer nothingness...even us.
I'm not gonna let that brick of text get any bigger or else I'm gonna end up writing a dissertation. You'd be surprised how many essays I've written regarding these things, but they were never for professional, personal, scholastic, or public use or reference. I just wanted to explain it as best I could without math, physics, or straight up quantum mechanics. So basically I've been theorizing and hypothesizing a LOOOOOOOT, and almost none of it goes against already established beliefs...Except the layering of reality.
UGH I MADE ANOTHER BRICK. I quit. Right here. |

@phoenix - i may be the only person here who actually enjoys walls of text; shows someone actually put a bit of effort into whatever they post, and i love reading theories, and things about religion.
and good job on doing that man, i get what youre saying. |

"voids?"
if somethings fallen into the void there's definitely something in there, and there's still particles in a void even if nothing is technically there |

Wait there's TWO people with intellect??? OH NO! What has this world come to Dx
You know what I mean lol. And if you ever wanna have an intelligent conversation, I'm here. Not always, but now I am. I haven't had that pleasure in like...[space intentionally left blank] |

@nebul
Voids are the same things as vacuums, which I already discussed in the original post.
@boss
You can't take away spacetime, that's the problem. Even if you considered the lack of spacetime to be nothing, there's never been a lack of spacetime, spacetime has always existed. So nothing would be conceptual, but would not actually exist in reality.

actually the big bang could of been one of the few universes to be created
there could have been other universes in one universe.
so that probably couldnt have been the beggining of time. |

but may i ask if it doesn't exist ( which means that it is nothing ), then you're claiming that not existing is impossible,

"but may i ask if it doesn't exist ( which means that it is nothing ), then you're claiming that not existing is impossible, "
have you ever heard of the theory that we're all just one person who has lived and gone back in time to be born again over and over and over and god controls the man so for say im the same person as you but god just sent the man back in time to turn into you and then sent him forward in time to give birth to me
i cant remember the full theory but it was pretty damn neat
however no, you technically dont ever stop existing; all your bones and body turn back into soil and you're then apart of the earth aka youre never really gone and your memory will still probably stay with others whether they forget you at the top of their mind or not |
