I know there's a way because I've seen games get gender specific possessive pronouns correct, Zombiecon, for example.
Is it a player property that Roblox doesn't tell us about, or what? (certainly wouldn't be the first)
If you know, please prove it by telling me.
Thanks |

| I'm pretty sure there isn't a way unless you dig through all of their owned assets (Or worn assets) and determine if it looks more like a boy or a girl. |

"Maybe his mom will hug him now!" "Maybe her mom will hug her now!"
Zobiecon gets those statements correct (with respect to the Player's gender) every time without exception.
Any idea why that might be? |

| You can't determine if the PLAYER is male or female, because on the internet, nobody knows you're a moose. You can't really determine if their CHARACTER is either, because Robloxians don't reproduce saxually, and so gender isn't really all that relevant. At best, you can determine if they LOOK male/female, or you can just prompt them when they first join the game. |

Prompt them when they first join the game.
You can do this with a simple GUI script, and storing it in a player using a boolvalue |

Thanks, guys, checking the Torso sounds like the best idea so far.
On another note, if those who don't know what they're talking about would stop pretending to answer questions, that would be great.
Just so you know, jordan, Player IS a Roblox instance. |

| You might want to add the ability to change your gender. Some people might use a male/female torso even though their character doesn't identify as that gender |

Honestly, do you want to this just for the possessive pronouns?
You can just say: 'Their' or something. Why take all the trouble to know this... I wouldn't waste time/effort/performance for this kind of thing. When, in reality, no one in ROBLOX would either care for or notice.
However, when you sign up for a ROBLOX account, you get to choose from male/female. BUT, ROBLOX, lets you (for some weird reason) get the women torso for free...
They should add a property for the Players Instance called, 'PlayerGender' or something of the sort.

Yeah, that would be nice. I was assuming that there would already have been something like that.
"Their" is plural. There's no short way to say it correctly, other than with gender specific pronouns, but there are also sounds. The character grunts, and stuff. It would be nice if I could use female sounding voices for for females. |

| You could previously just check if they had the female torso, though that is not possible anymore as girls spawn with 3.0 instead. |

Hmm... We could still check for certain asset Ids.
What's 3.0? |

I was actually wrong, the female package is still locked for females, you can use this function i just made to check if the player is female or male.
function GetPlayerGender(Player) local M = game:GetService("MarketplaceService") if M:PlayerOwnsAsset(Player,48474356) or M:PlayerOwnsAsset(Player,86499666) then return true else return false end |

I missed an end.
function GetPlayerGender(Player) local M = game:GetService("MarketplaceService") if M:PlayerOwnsAsset(Player,48474356) or M:PlayerOwnsAsset(Player,86499666) then return true else return false end end
Excuse me for that, I haven't coded much for a few months. |

Erm. The only reason your specific one is locked because it is a part of a package. People can still buy this: http://www.roblox.com/ROBLOX-Girl-item?id=48474394 And for a matter of fact, there are nearly a million people, who signed up as males, have that package. Making checking with that, highly inaccurate.

I think there is a reason why ROBLOX doesn't show the gender. There's a reason why they are selling the opposite packages.
Lot's of evil people, would use that to manipulate different genders in ways I don't want to say. I know most of us won't do this, but there are people who do this.
ROBLOX acknowledged this in 2011, hence, making the package freely available.

| They did it because they don't want to be gender biased, even though it still has a lot of uses and they shouldn't have done it. |

Back a few years ago, there were just dirty games. Exposing things I can't say. This was the spark that ignited them to do so. It was a good move. If they didn't do this, ROBLOX could lost its TRUSTe Kids Privacy, or worse, gotten shut down.

It surely prevents lots of them. Have you seen any types of these games anymore? Nope.
It's a shame, OP's idea was a really good one. But these people had to spoil it.
