I'm making a game where players may need to control multiple units at once. I'm planning on adding a click and drag feature to select multiple units. The problem is that there are multiple ways to interpret the same click and drag. I could evaluate it as screen coordinates (only select units selected in the box on the screen), as a 3D region including the start and end point, As a circle with an origin at the starting position and radius out to the end position, or as a circle with the origin at the center of the start point and end point with a radius out to both points.
What way do you think is the most comfortable? Let me know if you need more information for a specific type. |

I'd go with the 'in the box on the screen' type of selection. The other ways sound a little more difficult for players to precisely select their units.
