1) Introduction (1
The heat death of the universe. It's been predicted to happen since ancient times. Now, however, nearly a googol years since it was predicted to occur, it was clearly coming into fruition. If it weren't for teleportation technology, humanity would be splintered and never be able to communicate with itself.
However, there is a way out. Scientists, studying the ancient texts of Einstein and other String Theorists, have decided that a pocket universe is exactly what would be needed to survive. At least, until we can find a young universe large enough for humanity to expand into again, conquering the entire universe and making it their own.
The Torus, as it's come to be called, was originally meant to be a stepping stone to finding another universe for humanity to colonize and take over. However, humanity, being lazy, decided that the Torus wasn't such a bad place, and that they had no need to go elsewhere.
And thus humanity has been living in the Torus ever since, as their societal and technological advancements have slowly stagnated over the few centuries they've been there for...
2) The Torus
The Torus, name given because of it being a toroidal pocket universe, it's, well, a pocket universe. It has an interior surface area roughly equivalent to a smaller K-type main sequence star, a good example being 61 Sygni A.
Topology aside, The Torus can be thought of as a giant city with a population density equal to slightly over twice that of ancient, 21st century New York City, with a population clocking in at around 71,002,798,630,313,600 people of various species. There is, however, no "outside", per se. It is skyscraper inside of skyscraper inside of skyscraper.
The innermost skyscrapers of this sort are what you'd expect - Offices, apartments, the likes of that. However, they are all regulated at exactly sixty floors. After a certain number of blocks, often within the range of twenty by thirty but with no real consistancy, there's a wall. For indeed, outside of those innermost skyscrapers is just another skyscraper containing them, with the towers being more columns than skyscrapers.
That region would have an elected government official to deal with issues involving their part of The Torus, and would vote on issues involving the next level of government up. The afforementioned region where all the sixty-story buildings are part of can be considered one of sixty stories in a similar building, which in turn is in a similar area to what the initial region is like. This goes on for three levels of buildings within buildings, with each floor after the initial skyscrapers having it's own level of government and every single column having it's own level of government.
There is a slight social benefit that comes from living on the bottom floor of everything or the top floor of everything, although as most people tend to socialize with those nearby to them rather than explore a place that is almost identical wherever you are, this social boon doesn't really come into play all that much.
3) Culture (3
Culture has been changing and adapting to many enviroments and social phenomena, but it can all be summed up as a never-ending cycle. It's been a gigantic circle of culture, and, coincidentally, Torus happens to have a culture just like the one in the Internet Age. There's still some issues, even racial for example, with those resembling the original humans considered the "purest" race, having an advantage in politics for this (even though quite a number of artificial genetic modifications can allow people to be smarter or better at menial labour)
4) Government (4
Torus's government greatly resembles that of the early 21st Century, democratic, representative, sovereign. However, instead of electing presidents, or single leaders, the general populace now agrees to elect a ruling council. One historian described it as, "the Roman Senate, in the polar opposite of human history". Each member of the council had proven their worth, or they had shown to be descendants of political leaders from before the heat death.
The people elect representtives for multiple levels of local government, from the government for their apartment building to that of their floor within the first tower to members of the council for the entire Torus. Not everyone votes in every election, however, and it is not mandatory to do so.
5) Rules (5
1) Admin's word is law, and Tim overrules all other admins
2) Tim will likely not be participating, so admin's word is law.
3) If Tim doesn't like you, you're automatically banned.
4) Fill out the CS completely, please. Unless something says it's optional in the CS, it isn't.
5) In no way are you to contradict information on what's happened so far or what is written in the OP.
6) No being too overpowered.
7) No complaining that I said that Einstein did string theory. This takes place a googol years in the future, I suspect that the history books would get some things wrong by that stage.
8) This is a free-roam, but the admins will help come up with occasional storylines for you to choose to follow or not.
9) If you're joining, either read through everything's that's happened so far or PM an admin asking for a recap. Admins and other players will help with continuity issues in your CS.
10) This applies just for the admins, but after a while, especially if something major happens to make The Torus a largely different place than what's described here, contact me and we'll make a sequal with updated information so that it's easier for people to know what's current.
11) Genetic engineering exists. Alien species exist. You do not have to look like a human due to this.
12) Anyone that Tim categorizes as a good friend on the wiki is an admin, though they can be overruled by the admins who helped write this RP.

Name: Marissa Lyre Age: 21 Appearance: Marissa is an averagely tall person, being around 5'11". Her body is of an average shape, though can be considered only a little pudgy, most of her weight being around the thighs and stomach. Marissa's face is round, with soft cheeks and a button nose. Her eyes are a soft violet, a rather unnatural color just as her shade of dark blue is on her skin. Occasionally, she wears make up on her face, though the ones she wears are picked to match her face color, which are some shades of blue and occasionally turquoise and purple. Typically, she wears pastel colored feminine clothing that fits loosely on her. For example, or right now, she is wearing a coral pink sleeveless dress which reaches down to below her knees, with a dark blue shawl around her shoulders and neck, covering the top part of her chest. On her feet don a pair of a dark shade of grey boots with heels. Personality: Marissa is a sociable and friendly girl. She's easily excitable, but is also generally easily nervous as well. Occasionally, in extreme moods, she will stutter. Marissa is very much an optimist, and doesn't mind her less than middle status in life. Bio: She's a simple office worker, only working to make her ends meet. She works as a website engineer, mostly only checking and fixing bugs on some websites. Some of her coworkers are her friends. She's lower middle class, living at a tiny one bedroom apartment with a small kitchen with a small refrigerator, a crammed bathroom, and a medium sized living room where she keeps a square TV, a table, and some pillows she calls a couch. Possessions: Her clothing, a purse, some make-up stuff, a notepad, some ballpoint(?) pens, her cellphone(??), her wallet. Other: uhhh yeah i tried

| (Aside from the technological gap, accepted. We can easily adjust it so that her notepad is electric paper, her phone is built into her sunglasses and whatnot, though, so you're pretty much accepted as you are now.) |
