Can you explain why it's not a mental illness?

It's never been declassified as a mental illness I believe. It still is one.

It's meant to be but it's not for some reason. Eh, let them be, they'll perhaps evolve to at least have the brain of a chimpanzee.

To deny the brain is not a part of the body is absurd.

I didn't know people blatantly implied transgender people are significantly underdeveloped. That's incredibly stupid.

Being actually depressed because your body doesn't match the gender-stereotypes in your culture is.

There are two types of transgender. There is what is best called "gender dysphoria", or the discomfort with being put into gender roles, and "5ex dysphoria", or the discomfort with ones body/5ex.
Gender dysphoria is more of a nurture thing, while 5ex dyshporia is more of a nature thing, although they're both a result of some degree of nature and nature.
Gender dysphoria is still a serious issue, but it's usually best treated through therapy. 5ex dysphoria still requires a lot of research, but it's usually best treated through therapy and often times hormone replacement therapy.
Yeah, they're both kind of a mental illness, cause they aren't healthy states of minds, but they're also not something to make fun of. And being transgender doesn't make somebody less of a person either. It doesn't show that they're "whiny" or whatever. |

@Earthbound
I'm talking specifically about people who transition. They claim to NEED to do this to not feel disgusted with themselves. Wouldn't it be a lot simpler and cheaper to be medicated?

@RobustPhysics Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Except, since hormone therapies are pretty much irreversible, I'd recommend against it...

They have pills for depression, no? And for psychosis? Actually they do, I know because I'm on them. I think an anti-anxiety/antipsychotic/antidepressant cocktail should do the trick. Heaven knows, it's worked for me.

"Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Except, since hormone therapies are pretty much irreversible, I'd recommend against it..."
The only problem I have with hormone therapies, is the fact that people prescribe them for children that are just not obeying gender norms. Most children who take hormones end up regretting it.
It's just a shame that if you don't take hormones at a young age, they tend to be very ineffective. While gender dysphoric people probably shouldn't take hormones at a young age, is can be dangerous for 5ex dysphoric people to wait too long. Going through the wrong puberty can be hell on a person.
"inters3x people"
They have been asked not to be used as political talking points. Also, unless somebody has this one thing that results in both XX and XY chromosomes, they're still technically male or female. Male is the presence of a Y chromosome, and female is the absence of a Y chromosome.
Although if somebody inter5ex with XY chromosomes is raised as a woman or vice versa, I have no trouble considering them female/male. |
