Re: Realmwave: Corruption Within the Code

"I rule this realm now. Every man, woman, and child! I am the CODE-WEAVER!" A grey-skinned man shouts triumphantly, viewing over his mis-guided vision of the world.
No longer did Erik resemble a human. His skin grey and cracked, with each crack releasing an eminating green glow. The cracks spread around his skin like a virus, the glowing striations resembling veins more than anything else.
The city of Chicago was equally in ruin. Color was all but void, with massive cracks and gravitational singularities spread throughout the city. The ground; uneven and seperated into islands and mountains of what was once buildings. A storm of green lightning rang out in the distance, and a few moments later a green wave of energy struck forth and spread throughout the city.
Brushing off the sudden burst of energy as a gust of wind, Erik smiled as buildings collapsed in the distance from the shear force of the energy. Raising both his hands up, a storm of the same green lightning struck down and wiped out an entire portion of the city.
"Y-you're not going to... get away with this!"
"Oh, but I already have, Nicky!" Erik laughed, approaching the bloodied and one-eyed Nick. "And you... ARE NOTHING BUT A NUISANCE!" Erik shouted, stomping down as hard as he could onto Nick's arm. With a sickening 'SNAP!', Nick's bone erupted from his flesh and cracked into pieces.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHHHH!" Nick shouted as the splitting pain spread into his spine and throughout his body. His whole body began to twitch lightly from the pain, while Erik continued pressing down onto Nick's arm.
"You... IDIOT!" Nick laughed, his pained expression turning to that of satisfaction.
"You..." Nick groaned, beginning to crawl to his feet despite Erik's pressure. "Made the worst..." Nick growled, gripping onto Erik's leg and latching on. "Mistake..." Erik nearly whispered this time, tightening his grip and grabbing onto Erik's wrist. "OF YOUR LIFE!"
Suddenly, the lightning hit them both, erasing them from existance. They fought for eons in the void of nonexistance, before Nick came out the victor.
"You can't go back in time to fix it, you know... In this void, we both can remember the countless timelines you've made to try and prevent this. Each time, it ends the same way; you defeating me and going back to prevent this disaster." Erik laughed, a smug expression on his face as he floated in the void, bloodied and dying.
"This time, I'll prevent it. I'll prevent us both, even if it costs both our lives." Nick replied, turning his head to Erik before tearing a green portal into the fabric of spacetime.
"And how..." Erik groaned, holding his exposed ribs. "Will you do that, exactly?"
"I'll make a safeguard. We won't be the only ones anymore. This version of me will know them as friends... but in reality, they'll have the power to kill us both if the situation calls for it."
Nick began to step into the portal, ready yo forget everything that happened; ready to experience his new rewritten memories...
"Wait."
"Yeah, Erik?"
"I've... always wanted a sister..."
...
"Yeah... Yeah, okay."
As Nick stepped in, he felt his powers vanish. His memories dissipated as the time barrier regenerated around him, forcing him back to the events that started it all. It had sent him back to the past.
Chicago City, 2021.
-IMPORTANT CHARACTERS- Nick Span: A 25 year old self-proclaimed 'scientist' from Connecticut with a passion for the theoretics of the universe. He moved to Chicago City shortly after applying for a college there. When he was sixteen, his parents were killed in a lightning storm and he was left to raise his sister under the care of his grandmother. He owns a small. run-down flat formerly used by an artist, which Nick now uses for his experiments.
Lauren 'Laurie' Span: An 18 year old grad student from Connecticut studying web design. She and her brother, Nick, had their parents killed by a freak lightning strike when she was nine, and was left to be raised by her older brother under the guardianship of their grandmother. When Nick moved to Chicago City, Laurie gave up a chance to become a geologist in a prestigious college to follow Nick to Chicago.
Erik Stint: A 29 year old genius pioneer and the CEO of E-®IK Technology. He is known to be reclusive and generally develops his projects privately and without the help of his scientist. He is rarely seen and his past is relatively unknown, but it is known that he rarely speaks to his sister and seems to harbour a hatred of her.
Casanova Smith: The 39 year old mayor of Chicago City. He often has unexplainable migraines and he can't remember a time where medication worked for him. Despite being mayor, he rarely does any campaigns or public speeches, instead working around the clock to find an explanation for his migraines.
Kelly Ingrain: The 27 year old personal assistant and secretary for Erik Stint. He is almost always seen wearing pitch black spectacles, and never wears her hair in anything but a black ponytail. He regularly wears grey blazers and carries a clipboard with her at all times. She is probably the most loyal members of E-®IK Technology and is Erik's trusted confidant.
Olivia Stint: Erik's 29 year old twin sister, a lawyer and regular prosecutor against E-®IK Technology. Despite Olivia and Erik being siblings, the two seem to hate each other and Erik doesn't even consider Olivia his sister. The few times Olivia is seen with Erik, they're arguing.
Joseph Jerinki: Chicago City's leading professor in theoretical physics by day, and professional hacker by night. He was recently offered a job by E-®IK Technology, but is unsure about it as they are known for being a very corrupt organization.
-IMPORTANT LOCATIONS- The RP takes place in Chicago City, the capital of Chicago after the Illinois Riot of 2017 caused the near-destruction of Chicago and it was renamed in remembrance of the lives that were lost. Although the RP primarily takes place in Chicago City, there are numerous sub-locations which must be listed.
University of Chicago: A large university in Chicago City and one of the leading schools in the state. Nick Span is studying a degree on theoretical physics here, and sometimes takes a nap in one of the libraries when he isn't feeling like going to his flat. The school is very large, with the main campus alone being composed of 211 acres of flat land. Joseph Jerinki also goes here, being one of Nick's professors.
Chicago Institute of Technology: A large, but smaller in comparison to the University of Chicago, college dedicated to technology and other sciences. Laurie Span goes here and, despite several more prestigious options being available to study, is earning her degree in web-design.
The Flat: A half-finished, run-down apartment building Nick and Laurie live in. Despite paint splatters coating most of the dusty, white sheet-covered apartment, Nick insists that due to its large size it is perfect for him to experiment and study in. There is a single other room besides the bathroom and main room, which Nick has taken the liberty of adding a bed, chair, desk, and other such bedroom essentials for Laurie to sleep in.
E-®IK Technology: A 115 story skyscraper stationed near the Willis Tower. Erik Stint is the CEO and founder of the company, and a penthouse apartment reserved for him is found on the top floor of the building. E-®IK Technology is dedicated to making the finest technology, but is apparently very corrupt and many are attempting to bring Erik Stint to justice for his corruption and fraud. Its motto is 'Trust, in E-®IK'.
Olivia & Stint: A small law-firm located on the west side of Chicago City. Despite being very small, it frequently gains notoriety and customers due to Olivia Stint, brother to Erik Stint, being its founder. It is built into the side of a police station, but this is only allowed due to the political pull Olivia Stint has as Erik Stint's brother.
Chicago City Police: An unnamed Chicago City police station on the west side of Chicago City, in which Olivia & Stint is built into the upper level offices.
Chicago City Grand Capital: Formerly known as the Chicago City Hall, the Chicago City Grand Capital was renamed after the renaming of Illinois. There isn't much to say about this piece of work. It is an eleven story political workspace where mayor Casanova Smith works, and has a rooftop garden.
David's: A small coffee shop where Nick and his friends frequent regularly. It has a small reputation for its Starbucks-esque taste and atmosphere, but with far cheaper prices.
The Void: An unknown realm existing beyond the fabric of time and reality. It is green in color and swirls with green lightning, which can be used to manipulate reality by tearing holes into it. Future Nick and Future Erik fought here.
-POWERS-
In this RP, you will not get to choose your power. Instead, I will randomly assign you a power which you will discover in a random event early on in the RP. Make sure you set your privacy settings to ALLOW private messages, or otherwise I cannot send you your power.
-RULES- No godmodding. Death is final. Your character must have a connection to Nick or his Sister somehow. The RP is focused on a mystery, so don't insert details in when they were never stated. Romance at your own risk. I don't actively reject it but I won't be at fault if the moderators see your post. Please be realistic. You cannot use the same arm you were shot in the shoulder with, or dual-wield guns when recoil makes that impossible. No Gary or Mary Sues, please. You do not start out as a main-character. You can become one by staying active within the plot. Main characters have a impact on the plot and can get away with more godmodding than an ordinary player. (Suggested by SwedishLemon) Don't whine if you get a power you don't like.
-CHARACTER SHEET- CS
Name: Age: Gender: Appearance: Inventory: Personality: (optional) Bio: How do you know Nick(Or his sister)?: (No direct family, please) Occupation:
NICK'S CS
Name: Nick Span
Age: 25
Gender: Male
Appearance: Nick is a slim man who stands at a modest height of 5'6. Despite his slim physique, he isn't boney in appearance. On his head stands an uncombed, curly, frazzled mess of chestnut hair, which has visibly rarely been washed. Nick has dull blue eyes, which he wears thin-framed triangular lense eyeglasses over due to his poor vision. He has more rounded facial features than most, but this is often concealed by a very thin layer of stubble almost always being present due to his long hours.
Nick primarily wears a blue button-up, tucked into his pants. However, a long, white, stained labcoat is usually present over it. He never buttons his labcoat over, preferring to wear it loose as it 'gives him inspiration'. Nick wears a pair of pistachio-green khakis, in which he tucks his shirt into. The pants have a standard, black leather belt to secure them into place.
Inventory: A single silver ignition key, 52$ dollars in cash, keys to a used 2003 hatchback.
Personality: Nick is a very closed-off individual, even to his sister. While not prone to fits of emotional release, Nick often has bursts of adrenaline-fueled rants about his work. Nick is incredibly ecstatic about his relatively unknown work, enough to pace around an empty room rambling and ranting to himself about his calculations and how 'close' he is to completing 'it'.
Bio: Nick grew up in Connecticut with quite a bit of sibling rivalry with her his sister, Laurie. With their parents being leading scientists, they often had to go to conferences. and thus they left Nick and Laurie home alone. When Nick was 16, their parents had just pulled into the driveway when it happened...
A large bolt of lightning hit and struck their car, killing them both. The court appointed their grand-mother as their guardian, but due to her age it was Nick who mostly paid the pills and took care of Laurie. Nick made sure to keep Laurie happy; even at his own health's expense.
When Nick was 24, he got accepted into a top college in Chicago City. Nick chose to go anyways, despite of Laurie. He, however, didn't count on Laurie abandoning her own prestigious college just to follow him.
Nick almost immediately bought a run down flat when he was accepted. Almost nobody knew his reasoning behind it, considering he had no desire to 'experiment' before then, and even to this day even Laurie doesn't know the reasoning.
When Nick found out Laurie followed him, he was angry. He was more angry at her sacrificing a better future just to follow him than her actually following him, though. Eventually, though, after a long argument, the two accepted each other's choices. Nick spent the money to give Laurie an actual room, and let her move into the flat.
How do you know Nick(Or his sister)?: Laurie is his sister.
Occupation: Student
LAURIE'S CS
Name: Lauren 'Laurie' Span
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Appearance: Laurie stands at a relatively short height of 5'2. She has long, back-length blonde hair, but wears it in a long golden ponytail. She secures her long. shoulder-length ponytail with a bright red scrunchie. She has blue eyes like her brother, but her eyes are bright blue rather than dull blue. Also like her brother she has bad vision, but wears contact lenses instead of glasses.
Laurie wears a short, bright-orange miniskirt. On top, she wears a breezy, white, slightly puffy blouse. Laurie wears flexible, legging-like black stockings that go from the foot all the way to the upper thihg. She wears black loafers, but they have a pointier toe area much like a high-heel.
Inventory: A medium sized green bookbag containing various books, a spare key to the flat, a spare key to Nick's hatchback, a bike chain and a key for the bike chain, and a blue bicycle she keeps by the entrance of the building the flat is located in.
Personality: Laurie is... well, stern. Once she's made up her mind, there's no stopping her. She's got an interesting relationship with her brother, some saying it's more of an obsession and she's almost stalker-ish in how she goes about it. Despite being very intelligent and proficient in science, enough to probably become a leading geologist, Laurie can come off as air-headed at times due to her uninterest in much of it.
Bio: Laurie grew up in Connecticut with quite a bit of sibling rivalry with her brother, Nick. With their parents being leading scientists, they often had to go to conferences. and thus they left Nick and Laurie home alone. When Laurie was 9, their parents had just pulled into the driveway when it happened...
A large bolt of lightning hit and struck their car, killing them both. The court appointed their grand-mother as their guardian, but due to her age it was Nick who mostly paid the pills and took care of Laurie. Nick made sure to keep Laurie happy; even at his own health's expense.
When Laurie was seventeen, she found out she had been accepted to a prestigious college that she would study geology in. Nick, however chose to go to Chicago City to study theoretical physics. When asked why, Nick would simply reply 'I just want to'.
Laurie, not wishing for them to be apart, applied to a college nearby Nick's in Chicago City. Knowing she would be accepted due to her grades being high enough for a far more prestigious college to accept her, she secretly followed Nick to Chicago City.
When Nick found out, he was angry. He was more angry at her sacrificing a better future just to follow him than her actually following him, though. Eventually, though, after a long argument, the two accepted each other's choices.
Laurie now studies web-design, but only because it's got the quickest classes and thus lets her visit and hang out with Nick more often.
How do you know Nick(Or his sister)?: Nick is her brother.
Occupation: Grad-Student studying web design.

| The main majority of this 'RP' was CS's and two characters chatting. Plus this has absolutly ZERO information on how anyone got their powers. Was it an unicorn? Nyan Cat? Magical Farts?! WE need to know. Also I recomend, as you are just a hatchling to write when you become more known in the forums. |

Do you not get the concept of a MYSTERY roleplay? Most of the details I'm keeping secret, as they're too vital to the plot. I want DEVELOPMENT here, man! |

I can't do this right now. I'll try to accept any CSes when I come back, if Silver hasn't already destroyed the RP before then... |

AHEM COUGH COUGH, I HELPED WRITE THIS Y'KNOW SILVER & PREC. I was the one who suggested the concept of the simplistic open-ended plot. >_>
Maybe YOU GUYS just don't know how to write an RP, considering all my most successful RPs have been written in a way similar to this. |

A power's RP that swede made that made Swede's ego super big. He once suggested that he make a kickstarter to make a comic about it. Drawn by DC.

So it's kind of a meme that we say "I hope this is as good as Chaotic Disturbance/Is it better than Chaotic Disturbance, your hit RP?"
Swede doesn't like the joke because he beats off to the concept of a chaotic disturbance comic.

>You do not start out as a main-character. You can become one by staying active within the plot. Main characters have a impact on the plot and can get away with more godmodding than an ordinary player.
>can get away with more godmodding
This sounds like an excuse for the people specially chosen by the Special Snowflake Gods of Yore to godmod and instakill everyone else and be the best in the world and also the chosen champion of Yahweh.
But okay, let's pretend that people don't want to be the strongest in their own RPs and that this won't be abused by the admins who will play as the main characters and be more important and better than everyone (even though that will be the case).
This is bad thing without the admin abuse of it. Why? Because it takes away agency. It takes away ANY importance than people first joining the RP have to the storyline. Why in the Hell would I want to join an RP where right from the start, I don't matter?
In fact, this whole RP seems to be all about taking power away from the roleplayers. One of the main things you notice when reading through this RP is Nick and Laurie. I don't have any problem with certain characters being more important than other's, that's just the way things go. But if two characters are the centerpoint of an RP, to the point where it's a RULE for your character to know those characters in some way, that's an issue.
And it's even more of an issue if these characters are created and played by the ADMINS OF THE STORY. Admins have absolute power over their RP, because that's how RPs work. But what they should never do ever is make their own characters the absolute most important beings on the planet. No, don't try to lie and say 'oh, they're not the most important blah blah' yes they are. They are the most important. They are mentioned over and over again in the starting plot of your story. They are the most special snowflakes of all time, they are written into the literal plot of the story, they are controlled by admins, and these admins decide who IS AND ISN'T IMPORTANT TO THE ROLEPLAY.
And you know what's worse? The admins not only decide who's important, they decide who's powerful. Yes, the description to the plot says that your power will be /randomly/ chosen. But the power is still chosen by an admin. If the admin doesn't like you, they can give you the worst power of all time so that you fail in whatever it is you're trying to do. But let's say that the admins aren't literal dictators. You can get a power that's terrible, chosen at random. And why would you even want a random power? Yes, okay, if you got superpowers in real life you probably wouldn't be the one choosing them. But in a roleplay, you should have full control over your own character's abilities.
This roleplay seems like it'd be better off as a fanfiction. You don't need participation from other people in this if it's written into your rules that a player may not be important. You don't need participation from other people if your own characters are the crucial centerpiece of the story.
There is never, ever a good reason to make a rule that says 'there's this group of people that can get away with stuff more, and there's this other group of people that don't get to get away with stuff. Also the admins choose who belongs to which group.' That takes away a person's motivation to join, takes away the importance of their character, and takes away any agency they could have. |
