Hi, I'm ZeddZeppelin. I have been playing ROBLOX since early 2011 and have had two previous accounts before this one, I have retired from playing ROBLOX but felt as though it was necessary for my idea to be shared on the forum.
I have self taught myself to code in HTML, CSS and JS and have created numerous websites and webpages based off that knowledge. I have often contemplated creating an external website with its only domain for a ROBLOX based group/clan but been cut short by the realization that this website does not allow untrusted external URLs, although I completely understand why rule is put in place I don't understand why a website that already allows game creation via LUA coding doesn't also allow website development in the same way.
Imagine the possibilities of learning how to code in HTML, CSS and JS variations to make your webpage, blog or group look as unique as possible all the while allowing it to stay under the "www.roblox.com/" domain.
ROBLOX as a whole is a brilliant way to introduce kids and young adults to the language of computer coding and I think it would be a very welcomed update.
Regardless of whether or not the Administrators of ROBLOX like the idea of self made businesses (eg. Graphics Designers and Game Programmers) on ROBLOX, it still happens and I think that allowing web-development to also be a part of that niche market would really benefit the ROBLOX community.
Thoughts, Opinions? Good or Bad?
Regards, - ZeddZeppelin
Please mind my grammar, its very late here :) |

No support, kids can go to khan academy and learn how much coding sucks.

| The whole point of this platform is to be a fun and educational place for kids to learn, I don't see why incorporating web design to a website that already has game design isn't an acceptable idea? |

| I honestly expected some decently thought out responses, I guess the player base is slightly too young to care for things like this. |

Cut the first 4 sentences of your thread.
One of my favorite things about ROBLOX is that it encourages developers. But, I believe developing shouldn't be centered around a sandboxed edition of LUA. Web developing is important and this would have a lot of potential. Languages such as HTML or CSS isn't nearly as hard as LUA Scripting, there's no reason to say no.
This suggestion should be more detailed. I think you should explain more about users that don't want to take part in this. Here's an additional suggestion;
Maybe there would be three options when designing your page. Choose to edit in advanced mode, easy, or default. With advanced, you'll be able to design your page using CSS and such and with easy you'll be able to drag parts around and add text, hyperlinks, decals, etc. Default is self-explanatory.

This is a game builder for kids, not a website builder or web framework. Build your website and push it to your own server. |

Thanks for the feedback :)
I'll make a v2 of this idea and go into more detail. |

It sounds like a cool idea, but there's a bit too much potential for abuse or misuse, and the page creation would require a whole new subsystem on the Roblox website.
Consider how flexible HTML is. You could link photos up from anywhere, probably without moderation. There's no way you could get enough moderators to approve all the pages. You could have companies advertising or scammers linking to all sorts of places. You could have a browser-crashing script.
As much as it would be awesome to have custom webpages, the abusers will always outnumber the moderators. It stinks, it's true, and I wish it was otherwise. |

| The same way LUA by default could be abused, I believe I used the word "variation" in my original post. |

| That would be suggesting creating the equivalent of another Roblox player. Probably less, but still, that's a lot to ask. There's a fine line between too much power and too much restriction, and trimming down the programming language to an automatically "safe" level would probably leave very few customization options. Additionally, it could still be messed up by sloppy scripters- even if it's not being abused, it's very easy to create a messy loop or bug that makes the page unusable. |

It's also very easy to make an unusable or bug ridden script in a ROBLOX game, it would be all about trial and error.
Even if it was made to be something of a safer version of Adobe Dreamweaver, with tonnes of customization option but the ability to also physically move, place and colour things via the Design mode and then have it updated and moderated (as ROBLOX shirts, pants and games are already). |

| Don't get me wrong, I like the idea, but it would need to be limited to a small, experienced community, at least initially. As I said earlier, bugs and abuse could be a big problem. There'd need to be a lot of testing and a whole new system, and it's more of a lateral expansion to Roblox than a vertical one. |

| Noe one said it wasn't easy to learn, but it would be great if ROBLOX could introduce it to kids in the same way they do game design. |

I had a similar question, and after doing some research it just won't be possible cause they would have to change the whole structure of the Roblox website but If this ever happened, I would be so happy

I was more so thinking of using an external editor (eg. ROBLOX Studio but for Web Design) rather than the website itself. I already know of websites that do this such as "Invision Power Services Inc". They allow full control over how you want the page to look and then allow you to update it onto the official sub-domain.
Using IPS as an example again, they also allow two different types of use for their services. You can use the easy mode, which allows you to update logos, colour and text and then the advanced mode which gives you access to all the code. |
