Especially in the South and bible belt
I encounter such amazing ignorance all the time
Just a minute I was having a discussion with kinggaming, who brought up Japanese war crimes in WWII
I mentioned both the fact that Japan is the only country in history to have nuclear armaments dropped on them (a civilian population, twice. unjustifiable) and the horrendous displacement camps for Japanese-American citizens in which many died during WWII
He was ignorant evidently to both of these.
THIS is the root of the problem |

rahvin if you oppose dropping nukes on japan, then would you prefer millions of people have died by invading the japanese mainland?
because that would have been the only alternative
and besides killing millions of people on both sides (as opposed to around 150-250k people tops from the nukes), the entire japanese mainland would have been decimated, rather than just two cities |

@koda
what purpose would there be in invading japan again? they had already been pushed back, literally nothing was profited other than achieving total submission. ignorant thing to say |

| The United States wanted an unconditional surrender. The USA even ended up rebuilding Japan after the surrender. |

It was either drop the bombs or attempt to invade Japan which would have led to the deaths of countless American soldiers - the casualties would have been HORRENDOUS for both sides

rahvin, calling me ignorant, you obviously haven't studied world war 2, smh
there's no "invading japan again"
the japanese mainland was never invaded, in the history of ever, even in world war 2
the only invasion of japan we'd already done was against territory japan had conquered during the war
also, you obviously don't understand that the only way ww2 could be finished was total submission. |

@Camp
very incorrect and a classical excuse
there is NO justification for dropping nuclear bombs on LARGE CIVILIAN POPULATIONS
at the least they could have targeted military installations easily demonstrating their capability or spared the second city which costed the lives of tens of thousands in a firery atomic cleansing, thanks |

| The bombed cities were military production powerhouses. Did some of the civilians deserve to die? No. But Japan brutally killed people in China, and killed surrendered Americans in the Philippines. I dislike your attitude that the US were the only bad guys in this. |

also another excellent explanation by RadecMortem I'll share with you:
I just read this & I thought it was pretty hilarious.
"rahvin if you oppose dropping nukes on japan, then would you prefer millions of people have died by invading the japanese mainland?
because that would have been the only alternative
and besides killing millions of people on both sides (as opposed to around 150-250k people tops from the nukes), the entire japanese mainland would have been decimated, rather than just two cities"
Actually, the Japanese were considering surrendering if their Emperor still got to lead their country
------------
you have zero excuse |

If the US had targeted 2 military installations instead of 2 civilian population centers, the war would have taken longer to end. If you were the Emperor of Japan in that time period, it would have been a harder blow if you were hit in civilian areas, not military installations.
Deal with it. |

rahvin, no one here supports killing 150k+ innocent people, its a horrible thing that that happened
but I would easily kill 150k+ innocent people, if the alternative was to have millions of innocent people die, and thats why the nukes will always be justifiable, its really that simple |

| Where do you stand on the Irish potato famine? In the 3 years an estimated 1 million people died in it. 20-25% of Irelands population at the time, I'd like to know what you think of it. |

Do you forget how many civilians died at the hands of the Japanese, it's estimated they killed around 5 million civilians died at their hands.
Deal with it. |

@kodak
a military campaign would have have minimal civilian casualties, certainly not within the scope of millions, and japan would have surrendered within a week
we're talking a few thosand deaths at the most here |
