For those who don't know what the Warhammer franchise is, here is a BASIC summary:
Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40k first originated in United Kingdom, which then spread to the USA and other countries. Both of the WH's are table-top games, which contains mini-figures from different types of empires or armies that you assemble, paint, and then face off other players at a place called Games Workshop.
So, for the actual question at hand, which army do you play? I haven't started a Fantasy army yet, but I soon will be. For 40k, I currently am playing Eldar. (yes I know it is hated)

If I collected it,
Imperial Guard, Orks, or Necrons.
With IG, possibly a few Salamanders, or Ultramarines. |

Well, I used to engage in the actual physical stuff*, i.e miniatures and paint, but that was back when the prices weren't so ridiculous. It used to cost like £12 for a codex say seven or eight years ago and now it's like £30, the pattern is pretty universal; everything is 2-3x as much. Sorry, but I just find it hard to engage in something as much with those prices
I am however still very much engaged in the digital side of WH40k, there are actually a lot of reasonably good games out there, particularly the Dawn of War franchise and 'Space Marine'. Get the most of what you expect from the WH40k universe and as much of it as you want for merely a small handful of cash.
Anyway, back to what the thread was asking: I've always been about Tau, although I had delved a little in to several other races. I mean, 40k isn't 40k without some space marines is it? I had some Dark Eldar knocking around too when they were still a thing though. But yeah: Tau for the win! still a shame they never made a proper appearance in DoW2 though, a minigame champion doesn't count either!

The prices do really seem to be ridiculous these days though. If my math is correct, one simple and plain space marine,(or any other mini-figure in a starter pack that goes for $10) is $3.33.
And yes, it is outrageous. |

I've been sometimes looking at collecting models, since there's no one to play with where I live. That is, if I had the disposable cash to spend on it.
As for the digital side of things, I play Dawn of War (and DoW2) a lot, and found the Space Marine game enjoyable, even if I find the Spess Mehreens in general... rather dull. I much prefer the Imperial Guard over the Space Marines.
I also GM a game for FFG's 40k RPG Dark Heresy occasionally, and play Only War in another group.
My favorite faction would have to be the Imperial Guard for sheer awesome.
