Y'all have been doing it wrong the whole time.
Here's the real and proper way to do it.
get the model of the gear/hat you are trying to retexture on studio, insert it
open the OBJ file in Cinema 4D or photoshop Cs3+ or even blender
export the UV grid 585 x 559(so you can upload as a shirt and get a high res texture)
yay, now you know EXACTLY which part of the gear/hat you are trying to retexture, from here on you can use DDO2 or quixel suite or substance designer or even mari if your pc is fast enough
Much much better than just painting blindly in a low res 256 x 256 bitmap
I created these using this method

@Bacon
Glad to help
also, it's a good idea to take notes on how 3d texturers do things and learn from them |

Another way:
Get the hat in your studio mode. Get the image of another hat's texture. Put the other hat's image on the hat your want to retexture.
Done. And you didn't even have to paint. :) |

To export an OBJ file go to your place that has the hat on studio and go to "file" then click export place,
OR right click the hat in the object browser and click export selection
I am doing a video on how to do this right now
@steak

| Sadly this technique also allows for people to steal shirts with no quality degredation.... |

@Miz
expecting something to be good without putting in the required effort and time is unrealistic. and rightfully so. |

@Li
that's not what i'm trying to show off here
You can do this in any app, PDN, blender,etc
What i'm trying to show off is the fact that you can get real time feedback while retexturing. |
