My computer class is a joke...
Middle School working with Scratch... THAT'S FOR EARLY LEARNERS TO LEARN THE FUNCTIONALITY OF CODING!
Seriously, I would recommend Lua or HTML... seriously. >MIDDLE SCHOOL<
I already know Scratch (ya, everyone does) Lua, most of HTML and beginner in JS...just really.

You're lucky you have a computer class. I might be having personal tutoring with the computer technicians in my school, but the computer class in my school isn't Coding, I think. And even if it is, it will be basic coding like fake Javascript. By them Ill know Javascript and PHP and other webdesign features. And if its C++( highly known for being in highschools in my area ) or Java I'll know more than they will teach me.

I don't.
It's literally... "while run do" then you just add conditions which I doubt any of those kids would know. You don't actually SEE how to write and read code. In order to learn code, you have to be able to read it to then write it and apply it. Plua, the conditions are just like "walk [20] steps forward"

we learnt scratch for 2 years in IT before we went onto stuff like python
I got told off because I did my own projects on it because I already knew how to do more stuff, it was annoying.

This is literally the technologically advanced age... the advancement in computers and technology...
And schools barely even care about teaching it. I got into coding, sadly enough, from ROBLOX.. not school, not my parents, not some presentation. ROBLOX. |

well tbh scratch DOES help if you know nothing about programming with the logic and stuff.

They should introduce kids to RBX.Lua, teach them how to read and write basic code with variables, functions, conditions, tables, etc... nothing too advanced. RBX.Lua is SUPER simple once you get into it, you get to know the concepts. |

There aren't any Computer Science teachers yet for most schools to teach this stuff haha. You should consider yourself lucky you have the class. I'm about to finish my final year of Computer Science before going to Uni but because I've done this year few other people have (Uk education system, college is 16-18 and Uni is the American college) I should find the first year of my Computer Science degree somewhat easy.
Scratch is lame though. However, I supposed it's useful to start learning from. I tried Lua a few times and gave up, couldn't understand the initial concepts (Lua in ROBLOX is very weird compared to most languages imo. Bad for an initial learner, Python is much better), I finally picked up programming a couple of years ago when I bought a 450 page Python textbook :). Now for my final year project I'm using 6 languages while most others are using 1/2, which has proven to be a thorn in my side - interacting between them is blegh. |
