It is just sane politicians appealing to the in-sane masses. It is the equivalent of "Vote for me! I'll give you free bread!" The person who wins is the person who looks better.
Good thing that it is the Electoral College that decides who wins the election, not the obese scum that make up the majority of America.

taking into account that america isn't a democracy but in fact a republic i don't necessarily disagree
GRANTED direct democracy works wonders on nations lower in the population index (take for example switzerland)
i'd offer that there isn't really a perfect system. it's the sad reality of human nature really
in truth there is "no real answer to the question"
just my two cents

The fact that America is now the greatest country on Earth makes your point irrelevant.

correction: democracy is only as good as the population, and when that populous becomes uneducated (or loses sight of the value of their democracy), it becomes worse, I mean like less than 40% of Americans actually vote for most elections. however, still better than communism, and

That explains why everyone wants to bring it down and why immigrants want to move here. At least we don't have some oldass queen who has no idea where she is because she is so disoriented. At least we don't have a pope that touches little boys like you. We have freedom where we can follow a life we wish to lead. Read the constitution. Name a better country and I'll tell you why it isn't.

Democracy doesn't work because it creates an illusion. We think we're in control by voting when really the government decides everything regardless of how we feel after we vote them in.

grey, you may be right, you may not. I've read some nerdy historian's study. Basically, human society is a loop. Like, look at the Roman empire. The republic system for them sucked, so Caesar was like, we don't need this. But America, our new idea, yes, new, we need this. Communism nor Democracy is any better than the other. And did you know, Communist China originally sucked too? Like, the first decade or so, their "Great Leap Forward" was a great leap backward. After some leader switch, it started turning out right. But still, get my point?

One of the reasons The Roman Empire fell is becaus they got rid of it. Democracy is what made it great in the first place.

You may be right, but Caesar got rid of it to make expansion easier. If they remained a Republic, they may not have expanded as much, gained less growth as a result, and thus, had an even less chance against the invaders. But that's theoretical.
