I know Roblox has made the point of allowing the users to eventually be the main developer for everything on Roblox. That is already the case with games and clothing items. I feel this suggestion could be a good stepping stone for them to start the next step in hats, gears, packages, etc.
In this suggestion I am going to only focus on hats. Although, this template that I am suggesting could also be used for gears, packages, etc.
So the main issue with this is the freedom that users will have and likely take advantage of, which is basically just copying and reuploading hats. There a few ways they could handle this, and I know that these seem a bit limiting, but they will make sense as I explain them. I assume as well that as time progresses Roblox will give more freedom on the following options.
**This will be laid out in steps to make it a bit easier to understand the process.** Option one: 1. Users will submit an application to become an "Official Roblox Hat Creator" (badge?) 2. Once approved, users will make custom meshes for hats and texture them. 3. The hats then go through a verification process, which an administrator will have to do. 4. After the hats are verified, the team that creates all of the hats on Roblox will decide what happens to the hats.
Option two: 1. Users will submit an application to become an "Official Roblox Hat Creator" (badge?) 2. Once approved, users will only be able to make textures for hat meshes created by the Roblox staff. 3. These hats will then go through a verification process, which and administrator will have to do. 4. After the hats are verified, the team that creates all of the hats on Roblox will decide what happens to the hats.
I also want to mention that this should not replace the staff that already make hats from continuing to make more. That would only slow the process if they immediately relied on the community to drive the flow of hats. In fact, I think that the staff should be able to have a training program to gain more hat creators on Roblox. As I know it isn't easy to develop meshes and design textures without some experience or tutorials.
Another thing I think that should be open to discussion for users, is the amount of pay they get when developing hats for Roblox. I know that it may seem fair enough, as a privilege even, to have your own hat published and given to you-but I think that the main goal here is to reward the developer and turn their hobby into their job. I'm not going to discuss what Roblox should or shouldn't do, but I simply want to propose the idea of giving a percentage of the profit to the user who develops the hat whenever it is sold.
As my last note here on this suggestion, I would just like to mention that I am hoping the future of Roblox is bright. I've been here for 6 years and I've seen a lot change. I'd like to see some more opportunities present themselves to have users fuel what we, as the community want Roblox to be. I understand this may be something people may not appreciate or understand. I hope that you have an open mind when responding to this thread. Thank you.
TL;DR: To shorten my point, allow users to generate hats on Roblox after going through an immense verification process (applying, developing, and eventually getting approved to release content). This is the idea of David Baszucki, the CEO of Roblox who mentioned that he wanted to see this site, at some point become a complete user generated website-an idea of having the staff provide the tools and the users to create the content.

| Option 2 is pretty much the RAOC, the official retexturing group on roblox. |

@DailyPoutine
No more mods necessary, in fact, the staff that already develop hats can just verify the texture and mesh and assure they are appropriate and have no errors. A simple verification process. Not much more to add to their activities since the community will be helping them create hats anyway. |

That is true. But as David Baszucki said, he wants Roblox to be empowered to generate all the content on Roblox. Individualizing these users with badges and promoting an atmosphere for them to profit off of this is the proper step toward doing this. Why wait? Why not start now? |

Why not just have both options? People could create both meshes AND textures.
Great idea, support! |

| I'm pretty sure the only users who could afford proper 3D modeling software (since free ones are rather glitch-y and messed up to the point you can barely use them) are Merely and a handful of game devs |

Support. I would like to see user-generated hats. They know what the community wants, seeing as they are a part of it.

Fair point, but this provides college students a place to explore the tools they are learning. I know a friend who is actually taking 3D modeling classes. I know that Roblox would be providing a good grounds for users to develop great content.
Even then, you could be given the responsibility to texture a hat, or retexture a preexisting hat. That wouldn't require anything more than Paint.NET or GIMP 2. |

"Fair point, but this provides college students " say no more this is a kids website
"you could be given the responsibility to texture a hat, or retexture a preexisting hat. That wouldn't require anything more than Paint.NET or GIMP 2." *shift hue and saturation*

@Nteorvolri
You are under estimating the amount of people on Roblox who are in college that do design or develop things. There are a lot of people who already retexture hats on Roblox. This is just taking another step, and then they could of course recruit more students in varying ways. They've done this before with game developers. Either way, they don't need 50 hat creators to start, they just need a few, and then they can start reaching out to inspire more people to join them.
As I mentioned there is an application process, which would require you to submit whatever Roblox feels is necessary to be a hat creator. Once they create a texture for a hat, a staff member will verify the texture and mesh and ensure there are no errors (or, as you are assuming, changing the hue). Then they will decide how the sell it/when they sell it. The hat could possibly die and never be used, the staff have choices. |

I think that hats are such a regulated thing by ROBLOX such as the prices and the limited, that I would think that people would just sell hats for a ridiculously low price and really disrupt the ROBLOX economy.
However if this was implemented I would sure enjoy a "slice of the cake" if you will in this matter. I do know some pretty moderate modeling and I'd love to make some cool military helmets and some other things

@Nteorvolri How old are you? And how old are some of the other people who still currently play on roblox? I'm 15, I know that isn't an adult by any means, but you have to realize people have the capability of doing basically anything -including coding and modeling- by around the age of 9. And how many people play the game that are 9 years old? This I think would give younger people an opportunity to try something new that in the future might be their choice of a major that they are willing to pay for. You gotta think of the glass as half full and think of ways that it COULD work, versus ways that it couldn't. My post above also showed the negatives as well, but you have to finds the balance. Like the Yin-Yang sign, but about optimism and pessimism. You should try that.
*And I don't mean that in a criticizing way, sometime i only see the negatives/positives of an idea, and that's the thing that will ruin ROBLOX and really everything. Weigh an option by pros and cons. How about you make a Pros & Cons list? Maybe that will help! |

| You guys aren't even reading the thread, I mentioned that you have to go through a verification process, which means a small group of maybe 10 or more users will have this ability. They won't have the ability to sell the hats, Roblox will regulate all of that and sell it as they like. |

"How old are you?" asking for personal information is not permitted
"you have to realize people have the capability of doing basically anything -including coding and modeling- by around the age of 9" "coding" "modeling" "9" sure, if their parents literally tortured their child to learn it or else
"You gotta think of the glass as half full and think of ways that it COULD work, versus ways that it couldn't. My post above also showed the negatives as well, but you have to finds the balance. Like the Yin-Yang sign, but about optimism and pessimism. "Weigh an option by pros and cons. How about you make a Pros & Cons list? Maybe that will help!" you know what will help? if you stop acting like a smartass |
