I would get the 290x with an 8 core processor.
I'm going for a GTX 980 (maybe 2 or 3 in SLI) and an i7 Hexa-Core myself.
Should be a good build. |

| Yeah, with an 8-core, you should spring for the 290x card, because the 280 seems a bit underwhelming paired with an 8-core processor. |

I'd personally get a GTX 970 instead of the 280x because it's just so much better. I'd also highly recommend not getting an AMD processor at all and getting an i5 4690k.
In order for us to help you pick a reasonable build, it'd be helpful to know what you're going to use the computer for. What games do you plan on playing (minecraft, star citizen, etc.) and if you want to stream would be helpful. |

Although the monitor, I would switch out for something like a 1440p with 144Hz refresh rate, not just 60 with 4k, because chances are, in 4k, you probably won't be able to hit 60fps anyway. I would go for lower resolution, higher FPS any day.
I'm getting an ASUS ROG SWIFT 27" 1440p monitor with a 144hZ Refresh rate.
But that's just my suggestion. |

@Moo
Games like star citizen, heavily modded skyrims, the witcher etc etc in hd sound about right
Streaming isn't something I'm thinking about, so let's assume I wouldn't really need it to be able to screen cap. |

@Web
Alright, fair enough. In that case you can stick with the garbage AMD CPU.
You'll definitely need a better GPU in order to play more demanding things at better quality, though. Again I highly recommend a GTX 970. It'll be able to run just about every game for the new few years and if it can't max out everything, you'll at least be able to play on high settings with 60fps still.
In terms of your monitor, please scrap whatever overpriced abomination that's listed currently. You can get a 144hz 24 inch monitor for like $250-$300 from ASUS. You'll be able to see twice the framerate and you're not going to miss out on the extra four inches.
I would also highly recommend a small SSD to be used as a boot drive (just like 100gb). Your computer will boot up in literally 5-10 seconds and throw you straight to your desktop. It's beautiful. It's completely optional but it's just really nice and makes applications a lot more snappy and responsive. |

I changed it to the GTX 970
I was gonna change CPU but then changed my mind and now I've forgotten what it was lol.
I'll change the monitor too.
Thanks a lot Mool and everyone else. |

Buy one that isn't meant for games, but rather for programs to create things.

ASUS ROG SWIFT 1440p 144hz monitors are good but hella expensive.
I'm getting one for my build. |
